E-mail as a second language

My husband asked me a month or so ago what does “her DH ” mean? I answered him and was glad I knew that it meant “her dear husband”, but abbreviations can be quite confusing. Does it take that much longer to type out husband? Really?

Why do we call everybody ‘dear’ in blogland, anyway? Do you call them dear husband when you talk in regular conversations?

I use to think that only the teens and people that did Instant Messaging used all those abbreviations. It seems kind of funny that somebody will type a blog that I have to scroll 3 pages to read the whole thing, but they abbreviate when they talk about their DD and DS.

Is their a dictionary somewhere that explains all these abbreviations? It was quite bewildering to me at first.

Maybe I’m “in” now, because I think I know what most of them mean, but I’m never quite sure.

For instance, does LOL mean lots of laughs? little old lady? Lots of love? Laugh out loud? Lick only lollipops?

“SIL” was another one that took me a while; I spent longer trying to figure out who the person was talking about than reading the whole post!

I feel like a total loser when I have to ask “what does….mean?” If it’s a good friend I will risk asking; but if it’s an acquaintance I’ll just pretend I understand, even I miss half the conversation.

So, ttyl my DH says that my DD needs changing. =)

This made me Laugh Out Loud ;) Oh, and trust me, I did the same thing the first time I saw SIL/MIL/FIL… I was too chicken to ask the writer what it meant, too. Thankfully, I figured it out on my own :~) I realize you were joking, but I think there actually is a dictionary to define all of these internet abbreviations!
