Children’s Environment

Since the post I worked on earlier today has been sucked into the bowels of the computer/internet and I can’t find it I just decided to quickly type this up.

Okay - here it is: Children learn from all adults and people around them.  Not anything profound, I know, but this topic has been on my mind lately - not sure why.

I was blessed by being raised in a Christian home and school.  Even though I learned the most from my parents I can tell you hundreds of things I learned from other adults.  Don’t worry, I won’t go into them now.  Not just things from school, but life things - cleaning, economics, words, recommendations, Biblical things, and jokes.  They may not all have been important things, but they taught me or influenced me in some way.

Now I have children of my own and I want to secure a good environment for them to grow up in.  Especially right now while my 3 are little and tend to believe just about anything anybody tells them.  That belief is even stronger if it is from someone they know, even if they just know them a little.  It makes me think about who we as parents associate with and in so doing let our children associate with.

Now they ask questions, and believe without doubting the answers I give them on any topic from “Will God punish me if I don’t pray?” to “Why do the neighbor boys run around without shirts on?”  I pray that I will give the right answers that start a good foundation in their lives.

Yes, I will make changes in my personal life and friends for the betterment of my children.  No doubt about it.  They learn so much by seeing and listening.
