The laundry and dishes have multiplied.
The couch is covered in toys.
So many things in my life have changed
Because of little girls and a boy.
The beds are all bounced on; the curtains pulled crooked.
Dirty diapers are piling up.
Mommy, where are my shoes, my socks, my toy?
Would you please fill up my cup?
There’s singing and banging and noise all around.
They talk - my ears need a rest!
Up and down; In and around.
They talk to me; I am so blest.
They wake in the morning too early for me.
My bed is their first destination.
Pattering feet make me groan in my pillow.
I can’t wait for vacation!
Excited to see me they give wet sloppy kisses.
My clothing just never stays clean.
They think I am pretty! They trust me, too.
All together we make a great team.
My house will be messy for twenty more years;
With handprints, playthings, and bugs.
Yet I wouldn’t trade for a mansion for two
That doesn’t have their precious hugs.
So many kind people have said with a smile,
“They’re precious - enjoy every minute.”
Do they know the struggles that come with the joy?
Do they look back to when they didn’t?
I know that God gave me these children to raise.
He’s Holy and never does wrong.
So, Lord, help me teach them right ev’ry day;
And to enjoy them while they’re young.
