Backwards Works For Me Wednesday - Questions

Thanks for visiting! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed using the feedburner link to the right.

WFMW It’s the Backwards Edition of Works For Me Wednesday hosted by Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer.  Instead of giving a tip we are asking for a tip.  There are LOTS of other participants.  Just click the clipboard to find them.

My questions are about fall decorations.  I’ve heard/read varying things and am curious what you think about the following:

  1. Do you have any tips for roasting pumpkin seeds?front-door.jpg
  2. Do you know if a pumpkin that is sitting outside for decoration will last longer whole or hollowed out?
  3. How long can the pumpkin sit outside and still be edible?
  4. How should I dry a gourd?

Last week I asked for help regarding knife marks on Corelle plates. I’m still looking for a solution.  If anyone has any good ideas please leave me a comment.  Thanks so much.  The post can be found here.

    1. I wash them, toss in a tiny bit of oil, seasoning of your choice (garlic, seasoning salt) and spread on a cookie sheet - cook at 350 until golden - check often and shake pan. Try one and see if they are crunchy enough. I love roasted pumpkin seeds.

    2. They definitely last longer whole - we only carve ours a couple days before Halloween - they sit whole ont he steps until then.

    3. Don’t know this one - but don’t eat a carved pumpkin.

    4. again Sorry don’t know.

    1. Don’t know, have never done it–usually just buy them raw alredy out of the hull at the health food store.

    2. Whole lasts longer.

    3. If it is cool outside, it wouldn’t matter if it was at your house or the pumpkin patch. Just watch for signs of age like you would on any vegetable; no soft spots or mold.

    4. Set in a cool, dry place with adequate ventilation. (attic? garage?) You can also hang them like they do flower bunches to dry from rafters. They will also dry out in the sun, but again, it needs to be cool dry weather or they will mold.
