When I was a little girl I loved to have the Raggedy Ann stories read to me until I could read them myself.
My Mom got a pattern for a Raggedy Ann and Andy doll and I was going to have my very own. Except it just didn’t happen. There was always something else to sew like culottes and Easter dresses.
This year I asked if I could have the doll pieces and I rescued Raggedy Ann from the sewing room instead of the attic. There is enough material cut out and pieces started to make 2 Ann dolls and one Andy.
I think that my oldest sister [correct me if I'm wrong] embroidered the faces and hearts on years ago.
To make a long story short I finished up a Raggedy Ann doll with a red dress for my 3 year old for Christmas. I kind of just wanted to keep her for myself, but I figured that just wasn’t practical.
As an aside - the blue flowered material in the above picture is more authentic and what I had insisted on as a little girl. Look at a Raggedy Ann book. She usually wears a blue dress. As a little girl I was quite adamant that she be made just like the book. As a mother getting ready for Christmas I used the dress that was already cut out.
There is the finished 25 inch doll being held by my 3 year old who is not much taller. If you see me cuddling the doll now and then or picking her off the floor and smoothing her out you will know why.

Aww, she’s so cute! Great job!! My mom made me a homemade doll one year and my girls like to play with her. How neat that you could finish “your” doll. Now on to two more, right?!

She is fabulous! I love, love, love Raggedy Ann & Andy. They were my absolute favorite dolls as a child. Otherwise, I wasn’t much into dolls…too much of a tomboy. But I adored my Raggedy Ann & Andy’s. Seeing yours really made me smile today!

My MIL made a number of these. I have one she made me -Anne, and I have the Andy she made for my son when he was 2 years old. They are treasures since she is no longer with us. Thanks for bringing back a memory.

So sweet! I am glad you were able to rescue her and make her into a friend for your little one, too. And I’d perfectly understand giving it a little hug every now and then.

Oh she’s wonderful! How lucky your little one is to have her and what a wonderful heirloom! We never outgrow raggedy ann–I haven’t, so it’s really more impractical for you not to have one–you need to make at least one more and yes with a blue dress!

That is great! Now you must make one for yourself, too. My daughter, Libby, had a small one that went everywhere with her and was her “security blanket” for at least 2 years. Once we lost the original in our travels and were able to buy another, identical one to replace it. She did not know the difference.

Oh, that was a nice story! And the doll looks so cute, I am sure your little girl will love her! You did a great job - although times are always quite busy before Christmas!

Ok so now not only are you going to take your childrens chocolate now you’re gonna take you daughters doll!!! hhhmmmm……I’m not so sure about this!!! lol - It looks great. Would love to have the pattern to make one for my babydoll!!
