Comfort in Prayer Chain

Thanks for visiting! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed using the feedburner link to the right.

We are preparing for evangelistic meetings at our church. The meetings will be next week Sunday - Friday.

This week we have around the clock prayers for the meetings and people that have been invited. Someone is praying each hour around the clock. We don’t have to pray for the whole hour; just sometime during our hour.

It’s interesting to me how many times I’ve thought of this “prayer chain” during the day and night. It feels like there is more of a bond with the other members, and I like it.

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19

When I’m up at 2:30am with a fussy baby it’s nice to think that one of my fellow church members was up in that hour too. ;-)

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16b

We have done this a few times in our church. Sometimes we pray individually in our own homes at a specified time. Other times we have our prayer room in church open throughout the period, and we meet together to pray there.

You have NOOOO idea how much that last verse means to me. I have actually thought more about James 5:16 and 1 Peter 2:9 than any other verse in the past two weeks. Not sure which one I would choose as a life verse, but I think I’m leaning towards Peter. My favorite part being: “that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”. Is that not incredible? What a huge job we have as Christians! To show forth the praises of God. Now that is a worthy calling.

I realize this wasn’t exactly what you were writing about, but I felt compelled to share Peter with you when I read James because those are seriously the two verses I see everyday at work when I look away from my computer screen. One is on my bulletin board on a 3×5 card, and the other is a sticky note attached to the top of my laptop.
