My husband helped restore this trolley. One down, 12 to go. You can see before and after pictures here.
This trolley is 100 years old. It ran in Rio de Janeiro. Exotic, huh.
They would pile it full and hang off the sides. Think of how they pack buses these days and imagine them using a street car that way.
It has to be hooked up to the generator in the green box because there aren’t any trolley cables here. It can’t go very fast because of the narrow wheels on it.
But it goes! Our kids love to ride it. So do I and my husband. He even got to drive it. It’s just stop and go really. Ya have to stay on the track, ya know.
Please ignore the glare in the photo. We couldn’t move the sun. It’s just my face anyway.
Not quite as fancy as Judy Garland’s trolley, but the bell still goes Ding, Ding, Ding.
