Melancholy Is Incompatible With Bicycling.

The title of this post is a quote by James E. Starrs.

This spring through early summer my son’s bike has become like another appendage for him. It’s always in use and he only washes it if we tell him to.

When we first got the two-wheeler for him I fleetingly wondered if he would ever master it. Now he rides it as easy as breathing.

That means that he has started to experiment with how he rides it. Praise the Lord that so far he hasn’t had any major wipe-outs.

I don’t think I’m going to tell him about riding with no hands. I’ll let him figure that out for himself.

The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom. The realization that this is what the child will always need can hit hard. ~Sloan Wilson

awww.. I enjoyed the slide show. He looks so happy!

I remember when my dad taught me to ride a bike : ] Amazingly, I only fell once, then afterwards I got the hang of it! Boy, do I miss the days where the worst that could happen was a skinned knee.

Wow looks like he is having fun!! Now if only I could get my 5.5 year old to even TRY to ride the bike without the training wheels I will be in good shape!! I think she is getting closer to letting daddy take them off but we’ll see - tomorrow is his day off hopefully she will try!!
    Thanks for sharing!

He does ride that thing a lot, doesn’t he. :-) My 4 year old likes to try to ride her bike w/out training wheels. She can’t ride as far or as fast w/out the extra wheels though and she likes to keep up with the others so she usually sticks with the bike that has training wheels.
