Time once again for Show & Tell at Kelli’s!
I’m pleased to introduce you to Melanie, my one and only china doll.
In the summer of 1990 my aunt sold Princess House products [I think that's what it was] and had brought a catalog to our house. There were several dolls that I thought were just bea-U-ti-ful.
Once I had gone to a friend’s house who had a whole shelf full of different size china dolls. I was mesmerized with those dolls that weren’t for play. They just sat on a shelf and looked pretty.
I remember sitting on my bed upstairs and dreamily paging through the catalog. Someone asked me which doll I liked best. I showed them my two favorites and they were insistent that I pick just one.
I can’t remember just why I liked this doll best. Might have been that she came with the little bear. Might have been the chair; easier to sit on a shelf than stand? Probably was the Swedish hair style like Kirsten the American Girl doll. At that time I could do that with my hair and my last name was Swedish. [Now it's Italian - go figure.]
I knew she was somewhat pricey so I went back to playing in the creek and forgot about the beautiful doll.
Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped her on Christmas morning! I named her Melanie and she occupied a place of honor in my room for years. More recently she got to preside over my girls dresser.
This morning she got to go outside - without her dust cover - and get her picture taken. She’s quite tired out now and is content to rest on the high shelf while she waits for a place of honor in our next house.
Here is a picture my sister took Christmas morning 1990.

Your doll is very sweet. It is so nice to have pieces that we kept from our childhood. Believe me, they get more precious as the years pass.

Cute story! Thanks for sharing. I have a few china dolls that I have collected from various countries I have visited. I thought that would be a neat souvenirs to bring back since I could purchase the dolls with the traditional dress of each country.
