Trapped In The Shower

In our apartment we only have one bathroom.
This has it’s good points, not many of them, but if I think hard enough there are some.

It also has it’s bad points. One of them is my children’s uncanny ability to always have to use the potty when I am in the shower. Always. It doesn’t even matter if it’s the middle of the night.

A couple mornings ago I was taking a shower when the anticipated banging on the door began. The kids don’t just knock politely 3 times. They kind of slam their whole body against the door, rattle the knob, and holler while they are attempting to knock with their hands and feet.

My 3 year old daughter was first. Then my 5 yo son came in and went back out when she hollered at him. All my warm, steamy bathroom air went out with him.

So my 3yo went out and my 5 yo came in to use the potty, talking the whole time.

By that time I was done in the shower and just waiting for a clear bathroom so I could get out.

As soon as the 5yo went out the 3yo came back in. Guess he didn’t let her sit long enough the first time - I don’t know. I just wanted out of the shower. I hate getting wrinkled fingers.

The 3 yo went out, again; and the 5 yo stuck his head in the door to ask about breakfast food.

“If you’ll just let me get out of the shower I’ll get you breakfast!!!”

By this time my hubby comes and says, “What’s going on?”

I lost it. “I JUST WANT TO GET OUT OF THE SHOWER!”

He went out and locked the door for me. Wise man.

Oh, I know EXACTLY what you mean! We only had one bath for 9 years…in both our apartment and first house, and this was the situation in our house every morning. Only we didn’t have a lock.

I thought by acquiring a few more bathrooms at the new house, I wouldn’t have that problem. Silly me. Now they stand outside my locked bathroom door, knocking, screaming and banging something against the door waiting for me to get out. :)

And I can tell you one of the few good points about having only one bath…less things to buy. I had to buy more toilet scrubber brushes, trashcans and just today I had to add another toilet bowl cleaner to my cart at the store. Not that I’m complaining, but it’s just not stuff I thought about before.

I know the feeling! Only now I tell my 4yo to go potty before I take a shower. Then I lock the door while I take a shower. If she has to go again when I’m in the shower I know she doesn’t have to go bad enough that she can’t wait. I don’t take THAT long of a shower. It works out pretty well and my showers are hardly ever interrupted.

Oh yes isn’t that the way it always goes. They can’t ask the other parent who is doing nothing more than watching tv they have to ask the mom to be the one to come and get them stuff when mom is in hte shower and I love it when they come in and I say DO NOT FLUSH and they flush, they never flush the toilet any other time just when I am in the shower

Your husband is smart! LOL! Isn’t it always the husband that ends up getting the frustration boiled up from the kids? Not that I speak from experience, but that is what I tend to see. =D

lol — goodness! Sounds pretty hectic!

Sharing a bathroom can be hard. When I was growing up we always had issues with that!
