Greer Garson Lounging on Bed in a Gorgeous Robe While Talking on the Phone at Home by Peter StackpoleOn Saturday my husband and I moved our bed to the other side of the room. He suggested that we switch sides of the bed.

I thought it would be no big deal, but boy was I wrong. Saturday night was a night of very little sleep for me. Him? He slept like a log.

My preferred side of the bed is left when you are looking at the bed from the foot, or right if your back is against the headboard. From here on I will refer to the side I like as the left side because it sounds more artistic.

As I was tossing and turning Saturday night I realized that I have slept on the left side of the bed 9 out of 10 years of marriage, AND all of my high school years at my parents house. So that ruled out the idea that this particular mattress is more comfortable on the left.

Years ago I heard about a man that always slept closer to the door of wherever he and his wife were staying. That sounded so sweet and romantic. Tried it, doesn’t work for me. I don’t get enough sleep on the right side of the bed.

In my case the right side of the bed is the wrong side. ;)

My husband reassured me that if something or someone threatening comes through the door, about 3 feet isn’t going to make much difference. Then he promptly rolled over and went to sleep. On the right side of the bed, thank goodness.

I’m tempted to see how many nights it would take for me to sleep well on the other side of the bed…. no, I better not. Because lack of sleep means lack of getting work done; and both of the the aforementioned contribute to lack of happiness, otherwise known as crankiness. Momma wouldn’t be happy, and we all know that “When Momma ain’t happy…”

So, why does it matter which side I’m on when I’m sleeping with my eyes shut? Does anyone else have this problem? (If it is a problem. I think it’s perfectly normal, of course.)

I agree wholeheartedly…the left is the right side in this case! I could never adjust to the other side either…I think it would take me years and lots of sleeplessness!

I’m totally with you on this one. The left side is perfect! Not long after we were first married, I slept on the right side for awhile, but I never felt totally rested. Then we rearranged the bedroom furniture and I moved to the left side because that’s the only side the nightstand would fit by. What a difference! I’ll never go back to the right side!!! My personal preference is sleeping diagonally across the bed (weird, I know), but that’s hard to do when my hubby is in the bed!

I’m a right sided girl! If we aren’t sleeping in our own bed sometimes my hubby will end up on MY side and we have to switch or I cannot sleep. I know exactly how you feel!

This is so funny! My hubby is the one that has to have his side. It doesn’t matter where we are he has to sleep on the right side. Sometimes, I would rather him sleep on the other side if we are somewhere strange and the door ends up on my side.

I always have to have my bed facing the door so I can see it, but other than that, it doesnt’ seem to matter which side I sleep on. I have a king bed all to myself and typically stay on whichever side is closest to the alarm clock depending on how my room is arranged.

heck yeah it matters - I sleep better if I don’t face the middle of the bed. I feel too crowded breathing his air. :) So now he wants to sleep on the side closest to the fan … but my back is to the middle.

I don’t care what side of the bed I’m on, although it is the right (by your description) when we’re at home. However, regardless of which side I’m on, I can’t face my husband to sleep. It sounds cold-hearted I know and he thought it has. However, it actually is more of a claustrophia thing…I don’t want to feel my breath bouncing off him and back in my face. Strange? Yes. But he married me, right? =)

I don’t care which side of the bed I’m on as long as I can see the clock. I can’t sleep facing my DH though. Like Kaye said, it’s a claustrophobia thing. I feel crowded. Poor DH.

I laughed reading your post! I have generally always slept on the “left” side of the bed also. But it was because it’s almost always been the side closest to the wall and away from the door. For the reason that I would rather hide behind my hubby if someone were to ever come bursting through the door. Even in hotel rooms - I make sure he sleeps closest to the door.

lol I sleep on the (as you go in and look at the bed) left side but when laying on it its the right side if that makes any sense but when he’s not there I sleep sideways, I have no idea why
