Yesterday my second child turned 4 years old. It makes me think, but it doesn’t shock me as much as when my oldest has a birthday. Maybe it’s because I’ve already had a 4 year old.
She had asked for a child’s piano like she saw in a book. When I looked them up to buy they were more than we could afford or wanted to spend.
My husband made this instead. He used scrap wood that was in the garage. Isn’t he the best!?
It’s an electronic keyboard [that we had tucked away] set into a wooden piano frame. Painted pink because she absolutely loves pink.
For her cake I attempted some flip-flops because all she had requested was strawberry cake.
Once again I will tell you my disclaimer. I have not had cake decorating lessons. I do not have any special tools or dishes for making fancy cakes. So please be kind.
Here is the link to Howdini that has a great video on how to make the flip-flop cake. Sometime I’d like to try the purse cake.
She also got a dollhouse. Second-hand, but she doesn’t care. Bunches of little pieces, but I don’t care. It occupies all three of them, and keeps them out of my hair.
Know what she wanted for supper? “The thing you get from the pizza shop that you dip. It comes in a box and has cheese and ham and pepperoni inside.”
She said it was a good birthday.

What fun! How smart of your husband-I would have never thought of just building a frame for the keyboard! And the flip-flops are too cute! I love your photo of her through the doll house window. Ahh, let the imagination begin!

Happy birthday! Love the makeshift piano…absolutely brilliant. And I don’t care if you aren’t a professional…the cake is adorable. I will be making my son’s cake this year. I did his first one, last year I skipped, but this year I will make it (although with some cheating…stay tuned as he has a b’day in a month). It’s something that I like to know that I did for him.
I’m glad it was a wonderful day for both her and you guys.

That cake is awesome! I’m very impressed. I’ve always thought it would be fun to learn how to make cool cakes, but I’ve never even attempted to learn. Very cool!!

I am so impressed by the keyboard/piano - looks so much better than the plastic stands.
Glad a great birthday enjoyed by all.

Happy Belated Birthday to A! You did a great job on the cake. I always take the easy way out and just make a regular cake. At my house most of the cakes gets thrown out anyway. Very creative idea for the piano.
