Sunday Poem ~ When Father Asked the Blessing

Family of Evangelical Baptists Praying at Home by Yale Joel

When Father asked the blessing
And in reverence bowed his head,
Our hearts were filled with gladness
And our spirits took were fed.

The table spread before us
Was one of modest fare,
The food was always wholesome
And served with love and care
.

The sharing of our problems
While at the noonday meal
Lightened our burdens somehow,
And joy seemed more real.

In telling to our family
Our future plans and schemes,
We furthered worthwhile ventures
And helped realize our dreams.

A home is such a happy place
Where loved ones share together
The brightness of the fireside
In times of chilly weather.

When Father asked the blessing
And in reverence bowed his head,
We thanked the Lord in unison
For this, our daily bread.
