Do you ever think about what you will let your daughter’s read when they are teens?
I’ve thought of books I want to get for them and books I want to keep away from them.
Quills & Promises by Amber Miller is one that I would let them read.
The heroine, Elanna Hanssen, was very respectful of her parents, even when they weren’t around. She had a good relationship with her brother and was watchful of her reputation.
With all that said she did seem real, not like an unattainable storybook heroine.
This book only shows a glimpse of Elanna’s life because it covers about 4 years, but it shows enough of her character that it didn’t feel like there were holes in the story.
We learn how she meets a Major in the British army, corresponds through letters, and runs into a dilemma regarding his honesty. Was he taking a wicked vengeance on the French and Indians? Who should she believe?
