Under The Table

This is a public service announcement to tell you to check the underside of your table.

I try to keep the top of my table all shiny and clean.  ”Try” being the key word in that sentence.

Recently I discovered that the underside of the table needs scrubbed.  It was really icky.

Now maybe mine are the only children that put their cheesy chip fingers under the table.  That’s okay.

Maybe I’m the only mother that doesn’t think to wipe under the table each time.  That’s okay too.

Either way I hope your table’s not as icky as mine underneath.

Maybe I’ll just invest in a table cloth.  Then they can wipe their cheesy chip fingers on the cloth instead of the table.

Think it’ll help?

Never fear…..you are not the only one. When we flipped my table over to take it apart for moving I was SHOCKED at how sticky and gross it was under there. I never even thought about cleaning it…what in the world would make the bottom of a table that dirty?!!? Oh wait….I know what, the crazy kiddos that will wipe their hands off on whatever they can!! :-)

I do clean under the table, but only after watching my son rub his hands under there while I knew they were filthy with stickiness. However, I recently discovered two other places that are disgusting in our house and have vowed to clean them regularly. One of them in the underside of the lip on our shower door. I had no idea that it got wet, but our water has something in it (I try not to think about what it is) that dries an orangey-red color. Not rust-brown, but orange. Anyway, when enough of that orange builds up, it turns thick and black. Disgusting. The other area is the underside fo the lip of our countertop. That 3/4″ that overhangs the lower cabinets is as bad as you possibly found the underside of your table. Gross!

I’m scared to look at the bottom of our table. I know my 4 year old uses it for a napkin. That and anything else within reach of her dirty hands.
