Was It Meddling or Caring?

Sunday afternoons are one of my favorite times of the week.  It’s when I get to curl up with a book and read for over an hour.  [Usually.]  This past Sunday I read Gingham Mountain by Mary Connealy.  I laughed and cried, felt anger, excitement, and happiness.

The first meeting of Grant and Hannah isn’t the normal cute first meeting of the hero and heroine.  It’s an argument that continues through several times of them seeing each other.  Hannah is willing to do a lot to protect the young orphan Libby, but Grant doesn’t see through her meddling until a bit later.

The town of Sour Springs sounds like a great town; not perfect, but caring.  I think that through Grant and his foster parents the people are made to think about orphans and responsibility.  Some people react well, but some are still belligerent enough to attack Hannah.  She deals with them in an admirable way when they come to kick the orphans out of school.

Mary Connealy did a good job of portraying Grant’s adopted children with different personalities and characteristics.  I felt like I was there with the family during the sledding scene.  What fun!  That made me all the more anxious when the con artist hurt Grant’s son Joshua.

Now I want to go find the first two in this Lassoed in Texas Series – Petticoat Ranch and Calico Canyon.
