Comparing My Blog and You’ve Got Mail

I was hoping that the blogging conference would give me some good info and help me take my blog to the next level – just like inYou’ve Got Mail when Joe Fox goes to meet his online friend who turns out to be Kathleen Kelly.  In both our cases it has caused more thinking and more work.  Not to mention the fact that my husband hears blogging information spewed at him randomly at all hours of the day and night.

  • How much do I want to pursue?
  • What goal do I want to work for?
  • How much time do I want to put into meeting that goal?
  • How can I make myself better and worthy of more attention?

Just as Joe – just call me Joe – “F” “O” “X” – took it slow and eventually won the attentions of the charming Kathleen, I will be working and thinking and trying.

  • My love of blogging and the blogging community would compel me to continue no matter what so I  might as well do the best I can.
  • Success to me will be feeding my family from my blog’s income  [which right now isn't as much as I fear it will be in the future with 3 teenagers].
  • Vlogging is fun for me.  I enjoy making and watching videos!  I even enjoy editing them.  Now I just need to learn to do it better.
  • A loyal readership is more important to me than big traffic so it’s going to take some time.
Hopefully in the end we will meet up in the park while Over the Rainbow is playing and all will be good – except let’s leave out the part where the dog jumps on me, ‘kay?
I’d love to have feedback from my regular readers.  I’m going to run some polls in my sidebar.  Would you please answer them?  Pretty please with a cherry on top?  Thanks so much!

Interesting topic. :) I have been thinking about what I want to do with my blog too. I have been finding that I need more balance – balance between being a wife, and homeschool mother, and my blogging life. Somewhere, when I find that balance, I think I’ll also find what I should be doing with my blog. For now, it’s something I enjoy, but don’t want to consume my life. :)

  2. Hey Jendi,

Great comparison! Its quite impressive that you are able to find similiarities between your blogging that the “You’ve Got Mail” movie. Its been sometime since I’ve seen that movie but from what I can remember, its a awesome…and funny movie.

    Jendi,
Just remember to let God do the building or you’re laboring in vain. I frequently go off and work really hard on something and then in hindsight figure out it was me not God leading.

Have you posted about how to make videos? That would be something I’d be interested in learning for my blog.

Thank you for the reminder Cyndi. I agree.
I’m glad you’re interested in video tips! I’m in the progress of working on the outline for 10 tips for mommy vlogging.

Girl, you amaze me! I have no idea how you have time to do all you do! I love your blog, and I too would enjoy tutorials on how to make videos. Blogging for me is a way to express myself in ways I can’t usually do. If something interests you post on it, I’m sure there are others out there that are interested in it too and if they aren’t they might get interested after reading.
