Potty training is my least favorite aspect of parenthood so far. It ranks worse than labor – and that’s pretty bad. At least labor is usually over within a day.
I was really stressed and worried about it for the first child. It was horrible. When it came time for the second child to be trained it was a breeze. Third time through is up and down with neither of us finding the needed motivation. In our defense we have moved and gone on more trips during this potty training season.
We have good days and bad days. She will tell me as she is going, but that’s not a big help now, is it? Why does it always seem to be in the middle of the grocery store or during my shower that she has to go?
I know I’m partially to blame. I say, “Let’s use the bathroom.” She says, “I don’t have to go.” I say, “Okay, we’ll try later.” Bad Mommy.
I’m looking forward to the day when I don’t have to buy any more diapers, although I’ll probably keep some baby wipes around. They are good for so many things – including stains in clothes.
Do you have a lot of potty training to go through yet or is your house diaper free?

We’re currently potty-training the Girlie, and we have good days & bad days. Today is NOT shaping up to be a good day, since she just had an accident & then told me that she didn’t. Good thing pee washes out of clothes.

I do not do well with cleaning up bodily fluids.
Yeah, not there yet but definitely NOT looking forward to when I do have to potty train Adelyn!
Prayerfully she’ll be one of those that just breezes right through.
Potty training my oldest was a breeze. She was definitely ready for it. My son is a different story. Although, since we’ve ditched the pull ups and switched to underwear he’ll actually tell me AFTER he’s gone. That’s progress though because with the pull ups he didn’t care. He does great as long as I take him every so often. He goes 90% of the time. He hasn’t gotten to the point of telling me he has to go though. I’m praying he’ll be potty trained by the time I have to start training my 17 month old.
My house is a long ways from being diaper free. Baby #4 will be here in Sept. so we still have a few more years to go.
Your oldest was easier than a breeze! I’m jealous of that potty training. There was no training. She just went on the potty all of a sudden!
I feel you! We are potty training our 2 year old. She gets so upset if she poops in her diaper and the number of dirty diapers I am having to change is getting less everyday. However, it’s not the same for pee and that is where we a have a ways to go. Good luck! Hope you stay sane through it all.

Sounds like we are in the same spot. I’m clinging to sanity.
Oh to be diaper free!! Not going to happen soon in my house!! Training my oldest was easy, she hated being wet or messy so she learned fast. The 2nd wanted nothing to do with it and was a month away from being 3 when all of the sudden he was potty trained! Who knew! Now with the 3rd one he turned 2 in Aug and he seems like he wants to go potty but he doesn’t care to tell me when he has to go.. if I take him regular he does good but , we’ll see what he does. I would be extremely happy to just have the 4 month old in diapers that would be marvelous!!
That would be marvelous! I think if I took mine regularly she would go, but then it’s me that’s potty trained.
We were diaper free and then Taylor came along. Potty training is quite a ways off, though. At least she’s a girl… my girls have all been pretty easy. My son though…. oh, what a trial.

I remember your post about your last diapers. I confess to a bit of envy then.
I guess it’s true that girls train easier than girls.
I have been potty training my 2nd child since mid January, although it FEELS longer! the first 2 weeks were the best and now she forgets to tell me all the time, and i forget to ask! most of the time she goes to church with big girl undies on, so that feels like a big accomplishment to me. i HATE buying diapers for TWO kids! i completely agree, potty training is my least favorite part of parenting.
I always hated buying diapers for 2 kids also! It does feel long!
All of my kids started peeing in the potty at about 10 months (before baths – it worked for me) and really going more often by 18-20 months, but then despite dry days and weeks, both Ethan and Anna Kate were a few months from three when it was finally done. Rose has (please, God) finally finished her training this past week – at over three and a half years old. I thought I’d be crazy. She’s been going potty for almost two years, but just didn’t find it important to be consistent despite various means of positive and negative reinforcement. I really think that I deserve to have this one train at 18 months.
Yes, you do.
Now we just have to get her to believe that. Praying that Rose stays consistent.
