Now We Know Our Sleep Number

Recently we saw that Select Comfort was having a nice sale on their Sleep Number beds.  Since we actually had a bit of tax return money left after our vacation in Tennessee, we ordered a mattress.  [Having 3 children sure helps with the size of the return.]

We stopped using the water bed that we’d had for 10 years when we moved last May.  For a month or two we used a regular mattress and springs.  We woke up each morning feeling like we’d been beat up.  Then we switched to a bed with water tubes in the top mattress.  That was better.  A big downside to that bed was that it was noisy and cold. Plus my husband was still taking Advil on a regular basis because of back pain in the morning.

That’s how I found myself in the Select Comfort show room laying [lying?] on a mattress.  Isn’t that weird?  I’ve always felt kind of uncomfortable laying on a mattress in the mall.  The sales lady was very nice, complimented my children [more points for her], and helped us figure out our sleep number.

We were able to buy just the mattress because we had the 2 solid pieces from the previous bed.  They pulled some tricks for an extra $200.  We couldn’t get the digital control, the 30 day guarantee, or the bed within 14 weeks unless we paid the extra money.  Don’t tell all those super thrifty bloggers…we gave in.

We’ve been sleeping on it for a week.
Cons:

  1. My side will go up and have to be readjusted when he lays down.
  2. I’m slightly affected when he gets out in the morning, too.  I know I should just get up.
  3. I can notice a slight bump in the middle because I tend to roll towards him.  Got to warm my feet, ya know!
Pros:
  1. Quiet
  2. Warm
  3. Can be moved much easier than a bed with water in it.
  4. Packs in a box
  5. Bed can be harder or softer each night – however we need it.
  6. It supports my waist much better.  I don’t want to test this, but I imagine it would be nice through a pregnancy.
  7. I wake up without pain in my shoulders.
So there you have it.
Any of you have a Sleep Number mattress?  Love it or hate it?

We’ve never owned one, but slept on one at a Radisson hotel once. It was okay. My hubby loved it though. I prefer a firmer mattress and he obviously wants to sleep in a cloud. More than once over 3 nights I woke up “falling” into his side of the bed when I crossed over the middle. It was like a cliff due to how soft he had it! He never knew the difference because he was sleeping so well though!

That is funny! Luckily, we like it about the same. I usually only notice when he gets out.

I always wondered how they shipped it. Interesting. :) I really want to try one.

We just got one box because we only bought the mattress part. I’m guessing you’d get a couple boxes if you got the stands for under the mattress.

No sleep number bed but I commend you for sleeping on a water bed for so long. I wouldn’t have been able to be pregnant and get out of bed. LOL!

It was rougher with the second pregnancy because I had to get up and take care of the first child.

Yes, I imagine I would enjoy it as I get through the next few months of this pregnancy!

I’m sure that it would be nice to have an adjustable bed for those few months. Maybe you can win one.
