I thought, “Bowling. Fun family activity.” It was fun…in a noisy way. How are you supposed to tell a child to bowl when they can’t hold the ball with one hand?!
The bowling alley we went to did not have ramps for the balls. So I told my little ones to set their ball down and push it as hard as they could. It still rolled so slowly that the ball speed did not even register in the computer. Once a ball stopped 3/4 of the way down the lane and the pins reset. We had my 6 yo son try to hit the stopped ball. He managed to hit the stopped ball in to the ball return, but his ball stopped before the gate that sweeps the pins clean. He did get it close enough so the next two balls went through together.
Of course they were using the lightest balls we could find. We watched them rolling back and forth behind the pins and not dropping in to the ball return. So I kept handing balls to the kids. ”Here, just use this one.”
Next time maybe we shouldn’t put 7 children under the age of 6 in the same lane. Oh, well. Live and learn.
Also next time I’m going to take snacks and drinks – even if I have to sneak them in an empty bowling ball bag!
After all this my son got a higher score than me.

I’ve taken my two boys bowling, just a couple of times. Both times one of them always manages to throw the bowling ball down the lane. Not roll – throw. The resulting THUD on the floor can be heard for miles. They always love bowling, but it can be a little crazy with kids.

My children definitely enjoyed it more than me.
We took my kids two weeks ago bowling for the first time with my mom’s group. Oh, it was not fun for me at all. Next time my husband will have to come to help. I totally understand where you are coming from.
I think an annual bowling night sounds good. Bi-annual is a bit often.
Sounds like you had yourself quite an adventure. I’m glad you survived.
It was like a reality show. LOL
