Summertime And The Sittin’ Is Easy

chair we sit inLast week my friend and I got to sit a bit and watch our kids ride bikes.  The weather was nice – not too hot or cold. It’s pretty easy to watch the kids right now because they can all walk, get in and out of their riding toys, and make the riding toys go forward and backwards.  Some years we had to constantly get kids unstuck, block the drop offs & hills, push them around, or put them in and out of different toys.

We were able to actually carry on a conversation.  So what if it was punctuated with short sayings such as, “Share that bike!  Don’t push.  Your turn is done.  Put your shoes back on.”  I’m pretty used to interrupted conversations. We’re pretty good at continuing after the child is taken care of.

It was another ordinary time that I want to remember because someday it won’t be ordinary any more.

  1. oh, boy do we know about those interrupted conversations! Before kids it would have driven me nutso! Now it is so normal to be able to pick back up. It is nice to have kids old enough to ride around on their own for a bit. Good for you for treasuring this moment with your friend!

I try to not do it when I’m talking on the phone, but it’s really hard. At least in real life the other person can see that my child is pulling on me.

That would be fun. Except my husband is cooking up something for this weekend. I’m sure I’ll blog about it if we go through with it.

Oh, my… the interruptions used to drive me crazy! But soon enough, those moments won’t happen nearly often enough. Thank you for the reminder to appreciate and savor every moment with my children!

Occasionally they still do drive me crazy! Like when I’m trying to write.

Sounds like a great day. I feel like I don’t have anytime for that these days! I can barely keep up with anything!

I can’t wait for those days! I somehow became friends with a mom who has twins. Right now her boy thinks he can jump (he just walks right off the top of the play structure) and her girl thinks she can get off anything as long as she lays on her belly and wiggles backwards. Fun times!
