Early this AM I heard some running feet. Then a wail woke me a bit more. From the wail I knew it was one of the girls. Next the feet went running and there was another wail. This one was longer so I went to see what was the matter.
Both the girls were laying on their bellies, but my 2 year old immediately rolled over when I walked in. Through the tears pouring down her cheeks she said, “Where were you Mommy? I couldn’t find you.”
I smoothed her hair and replied, “I was right in my bed. What’s the matter?”
“I couldn’t find you!”
“We’re all here in our beds. It’s okay. Were you dreaming?”
She nodded her head.
“It’s all right. You can sleep. We’re all here around you.”
She laid her head down and held my hand for a minute before closing her eyes.
As I stumbled back to bed I was thinking that those are the times that I want to remember for next Mother’s Day. When I get to be the one searched for, the heroine, and the comfort.
