Yard Sale Shopping For My Whole Summer

This past Saturday I went shopping at yard sales for about 6 hours.  That is longer than I went to yard sales all last summer!  Two connecting developments were having community sales and it was like going to a fair. There was tons of people, food set up all around, and no parking.

necklaces from yard salesI spent about $30 and got lots of stuff.  I didn’t take my children with me so I hid most of the stuff.  I’m saving it for presents, rewards, or rainy days.  So if you read this and see them in real life – don’t tell!

Here’s most of what I got:

  • 2 shirts and skirts for me
  • new exercise DVD
  • several items of clothing for my 4 year old daughter, and a shirt for my son; plus sturdy kids hangers
  • a grater and mug for my kitchen
  • a free puzzle and baby car seat for my kids to play with
  • piano music book
  • a curling iron – a cheap spare is good to have on hand
  • cap gun and caps
  • computer speakers to replace our staticy ones -I don’t think “staticy” is in the dictionary, but I like it.
  • only one book – I exerted self-control!
  • A CD case and 3 CDs – can’t beat 10 cents each
  • jewelry for me [see picture]
  • A variety of toys including walkie-talkies, play boots, Bob the Builder Play-doh stuff, a Melissa & Doug magnetic doll, accessories for Little People we already have.
  • An electronic gadget for my man to play with

Most importantly I was able to get presents for my 3 year olds birthday.  She received a scooter, roller skates, and a Dora computer game.  They are all in good shape and I saved a lot of money buying them from yard sales.  I love when the community has kids slightly older than mine!

My husband was amazed at how sound asleep I was during nap time. ;)  I am glad that I remembered to put on sunblock.

Have you gone to any great yard sales this year?  Have you had a yard sale?

  1. I know I probably should because I see all the great finds others get at yard sales, but I just haven’t gotten into it myself. As a matter of fact, I have only been to 2 or 3 in my whole life. Gasp!

Looks like you found a lot of great stuff. I guess I really should give it a try.

I enjoy going to yard sales but have only been once this year. I wouldn’t mind going by myself but when I have to take the 3 young kids along, the fun doesn’t last long. Perhaps I can convince hubby to come with me sometime.

Don’t convince him to go with you – convince him to stay home with the kids. :)

I was crazy enough to go to a couple of nearby yard sales this past Saturday with all three girls – 2 week old Bella wasn’t terribly impressed, but fortunately fell asleep before long. And it paid off! I got a bucket of Legos that made Ethan’s day for $3, a new changing pad for $1 (now that I’d given up and bought a few expensive ones), the older girls found The Little Mermaid 2 and Chicken Run videos for $1, and I picked up 3 Boxcar Children books for 50 cents each. Not bad.

No, i didn’t have any yard sales yet. But if you have spent 6 hours on them, they must be interesting but also tough, as every other shopping is :)

We went to a yard sale a couple weeks ago and got some good deals! My 6 yr old got a beautiful dress for $5. She had gotten a leapster for K5 graduation so we were looking for games. We found some and a system we thought was broken for a dollar!! The system wasn’t broken it just didn’t have rechargeable batteries in it like the lady thought! We put new batteries in it and now the boys have a leapster to play with to!! And we got 2 games! It was all in all a good day!

On the other side of that … I had a yard sale for 7 hours on Saturday and I MADE $74!!! Woooohoooooo!!!!! :-)

  7. You never know what you will find when you set out for a day of yard sales. I don’t go that often to yard sales — but when I do, I usually manage to find something that I can use and then about 10 other things that I probably don’t need but can’t pass up!
