Feeling The Pressure

tuesdays unwrappedToday I woke up feeling the pressure.  The pressure to clean the house and be beautiful plus school the children and sneak a piece of chocolate cake while they’re not looking.

Who puts this pressure on me?  Maybe the dirty laundry and dishes are sending signals to my subconscious.  In reality it’s just me, myself, and I applying the pressure.  My husband does not demand an immaculate dwelling.  My children would rather have the day off, but I think it should all be done by lunch.

Let’s not forget online pressure.  That opens up another door.  There’s pressure to be involved, to be marketing, to be funny, to jump into all the newest social groups, to write the perfect 140 characters, to make a viral video.  Once again, who is applying this pressure?  Me, myself, and I.

My first impulse was to pull the covers over my head, but my children wouldn’t let me stay in bed.  My second decision was to stay in the shower until all the hot water ran out, but once again my children wouldn’t let me.  So instead, I decided to do everything in halves.  I’m schooling one child.  I’m working on half my list of things to do.  I’m only eating half a piece of cake – scratch that – I’m eating the whole piece of cake!

What pressure do you put yourself under that is unnecessary?  Why not let it go for one day?

I definitely think the whole piece of cake will double your pleasure of doing half as much. Have a wonderful half-day!

Oh my goodness, Jendi, you are so preaching to me!!! I needed this. Hopefully I will be able to slow things down and not put so much pressure on myself. Oh, and just one of the pressures I put on myself is to have an immaculate house….I mean over the top ridiculous need to have things tidy. It’s hard to keep up especially having a toddler!

from Jendi: I’m so glad you commented! It wasn’t my intention to preach at you. I also hope you will slow down. It is hard to keep up with kids. Take some time and just play with your toddler – soon she’ll be a teenager and won’t want to play.

I get the clean house thing. I stress a ton about this. I sometimes get annoyed when my kids play because of the pressure I put on myself to have things neat. Must work on this! No more pressure!

Oh, and always, always eat the full piece of cake ;)

  4. I think if you succumb to pressure you will be stressed out. Maybe we need to exercise more because online pressure can get you in your seat the whole day.

  5. Good one on feeling the pressure and it helps a lot.

    Thanks,
    Steve
