A Ladies Shooting Club

The shooting club is the big deal in The Sheriff’s Surrender by Susan Page Davis. I personally was taught to shoot by my father and my husband so I see nothing wrong with a shooting club.  In those days [Before Cellphones] I would think it even more important to know how to shoot well.  It was probably the most ammunition and gun types ever mentioned in a Christian Romance.

Some things I liked:

  • the way the ladies tried to live as the Bible says and reached out to help those who needed it.
  • the way Hiram didn’t talk, but his sister knew exactly what he wanted to say.
  • the way the town pulled together when necessary.

I was a bit confused by so many names and people.  Most characters were called by their first names sometimes and more formal last names other times.  I just found it a bit taxing to try to constantly figure out who was who.

About the book:

Gert Dooley can shoot the tail feathers off a jay at a hundred yards, but she wants Ethan Chapman to see she’s more than a crack shot with a firearm. When the sheriff of Fergus, Idaho, is murdered and Ethan is named his replacement, Gert decides she has to do whatever she can to help him protect the citizenry. So she starts the Ladies Shooting Club. But when one of their numbers is murdered, these ladies are called on for more than target shooting and praying. Can Gert and the ladies of Fergus find the murderer before he strikes again?

  1. Hey, Jendi! thanks for featuring my book! I loved writing it, and Hiram is one of my favorite characters. He will be the star of the second book, The Gunsmith’s Gallantry. Have a merry Christmas!
