I have a dream, but it’s a totally selfish one. I dream about not having to wear contacts or glasses. I do know that it’s not good to go into laser eye surgery expecting to be totally lens free, but a girl can hope – right?
I have worn glasses or contacts since first grade and they are needed. My contacts aren’t just to clear things up. They permit me to live my life; to see enough to walk, drive, type, cook, read, play piano – anything that needs to be done more than 6 inches from my face.
Imagine how it would be to:
- not have to worry about ripping a contact or having it pop out of my eye.
- not have sore ears and nose from wearing glasses.
- be able to see the clock on the bedside table without scooting to the edge of the bed.
- open my eyes after sleeping and everything would be clear without fumbling for glasses.
- not have to buy lenses and products to take care of them.
I know that Lasik is a big chunk of change. I think if I added up all the money already spent on corrective lenses through my life it would more than cover the cost. Probably the same for the future. Unfortunately I don’t have that chunk of change at this time.
If somebody wants to sponsor me – Lasik are you reading? I could vlog it and write about it! Of course, I would tell everybody in my real life. I wouldn’t be able to wear my contacts for a while before the surgery and I’m sure that lots of people would ask. I could do videos from start to finish – from home to business, and distribute them lots of places online.
Have any of you had eye surgery? My eye doctor had eye surgery herself and said that I would be a good candidate. Three of my husbands cousins have had it and are glad they did; even his grandfather had it! I have heard one or two bad stories…have you?

My dad had it and did not need glasses for a while. Now all he needs is over the counter reading glasses for reading small things! I want to get it done so bad but like you don’t have the money to spend on it! Oh well, I guess I will just continue wearing my glasses and contacts!

Joseph had Lasik done in 2008 and he loves it. Of course, his eyesight wasn’t very terrible in the first place, but still, he doesn’t have to wear glasses anymore and that was enough for him. Now he just keeps telling me that I need to find out if I qualify for Lasik myself. I will continue replying that I want to wait until my eyes stop changing before I worry about Lasik. See, two years ago, both eyes were -4.0 or worse while last year and so far (all 8 days) this year, I’m holding steady at -3.25 in both eyes. If they stay the same through this year, I think I might actually make that appointment just to please Joseph.

My mom just saw an eye doctor who specializes in Lasik surgery. She decided not to do it. My nephew is thinking about having it done. You’re right about the cost, Jendi. In the long run it’s cheaper to have the surgery done compared to what you pay for glasses and/or contacts. My eyes aren’t that bad and I only wear glasses to keep from getting a headache when I’m reading or typing. I don’t think I could ever have laser surgery on my eyes though. One wrong move and you could be blind for life – yikes!
I’ve heard plenty of positive stories about LASIK and just one negative. However, that person had it done by a doctor who wasn’t very experienced. As long as you do your research and find other satisfied patients, go for it!
Good luck on getting someone to sponsor your surgery! Sounds like a great plan and excellent marketing strategy for an eye doctor.
I know how you feel and this is the feeling that most of us have about surgery of any kind. While there are stories about negative results, the surgery has gained popularity over years because of the many of positive results. Celebrities are undergoing such surgeries and now even laypersons are going in. What you need is a little explanation about the procedure, which you will find in the website http://www.worldclasslasik.com. There are explanations about the procedures, costing and also the long term benefits of the surgery. Just go through them and ask your doctor for more advise.
I have using glasses a year ago until now. As I read this article I discover that Lasik can help me without wearing my glasses. I will buy it in my friend for She has a vision clinic. I think She has using like this.
