Remember the survey that I did a while ago? The following question was left for me and I saved it to answer, but then forgot. So I hope that whoever is reading is still checking in with my little ol’ blog.
“I started doing Gold Canyon Candle Home Business along with working outside the home. I want to begin the home based business permanently and become a sahm. My husband is a truck driver who wants to start his own business by the spring. How do you manage to live an abundant life God wants on one income?”
I think it is great that you want to be a SAHM! I commend you for making the decision to stay home AND start a business. Stay at home moms are worth quite a lot.
My first question is “What are you defining as an abundant life?” God never promises that we will be rich. In fact the Bible often warns against riches. I personally think that the abundant life God gives us on this earth comes more in the form of joy and love than in coins and dollars. God offers amazing love that never changes no matter what we do. Then add eternal life on top of that and it’s really extremely generous!
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Sometimes being willing to be a SAHM means changing your mindset of what you and your children will have. God promises to meet our needs – not our wants. Do we need to keep up with the Jones’, Smiths’, or whoever else?
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
How do I personally manage to live an abundant life?
- I hang on to God’s promises and pray about what I should do.
- I strive to be content with what I have and teach my children to be content.
- I don’t shop often because I don’t like to, and also because it’s harder for me to be content with what I have when I see all this great stuff for sale.
- I try to be frugal/thrifty, use coupons, re-use what I can, make what we can, and trust that if I have a true need God will meet it – maybe not in my time, but in the right time.
- I pray for people like Anissa and Nienie and realize that if they can have the attitude they have – I am such a wimp to not be thankful for what I have.
- I go online and meet friends and blog readers who give an abundance to my life that I never expected. And yes, I pray about what to do online and I have seen God bless my online endeavors.
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
I’m going to rephrase Tiny Tim’s saying and end with:
God bless all the SAHMs – every one!

That’s the real question isn’t it. What do you define as an abundant life? I think you answered the question very precisely. For my own part, an abundant life consists of growing in character, love, and truth.
