I’ll be totally honest and say that some weeks I just get by. I do what has to be done – the homeschooling, the dishes, the laundry – but nothing extra. Those weeks I’m usually lagging behind. I upped my game last week. I worked hard. I even exercised 3 times! I’m not saying that my house is spotless. I’m saying that I’m pleased with what I was able to get done last week. I put on my shoes every day [like Flylady says] and I worked. I’m hoping to get a lot done this week as well.
How did you do last week?
Some key things that helped me get work done:
- Reading my Bible. Starting my day the right way.
- Getting dressed to shoes every day.
- Having some fun time. I do better when I take some time to read, or do something just because I like to do it.
- Fresh air and sunshine. Taking the dog out for just 15 minutes helped me feel more energetic.
- Using my mother-in-law’s dishwasher. Those dishes surely do drag me down! Sometimes it feels like I’m cheating by taking my dishes up to her dishwasher, but my husband doesn’t mind and it helps me get my sink shiny.
- My timer. I’d be lost without it.
- A list of goals for the whole week. This regularly changes – some weeks I do great with a list, and some weeks it depresses me. Sometimes I use daily lists; other times weekly.
- Sheer determination and the right attitude.
- Having my kids help. Those pulling-my-hair-out training sessions are starting to pay off a little bit.
- Chocolate
What helps you?

I had a crazy busy week so all of things I normally get done (working out), house cleaning, etc… fell to the wayside.
This week should be better.

I just started using Flylady a little bit ago!! I am going slow but getting there! It is very helpful for getting things done!!
Jendi! Thanks so much for linking up! I am with you—sheer determination is what does it!
But for me, I MUST take a shower before the kids get up (or at least before breakfast). Off to look at your daily list post!

I understand the “putting your shoes on”. We don’t wear shoes in the house, but I know when I actually manage to get dressed BEFORE the kids get up (most days they’re up before me), I get SOOO much more accomplished! I really need to work on getting up earlier!

I like the “chocolate” best:)
Totally agree about having a list (and chocolate!). But I can’t do the shoes thing. I can’t wear shoes inside, I might wear slippers when it’s cold. Usually I have bare feet. I’m more comfortable and unless I have a pair of shoes that is dedicated to inside-only, I would feel like I’m tracking dirt every where. That’s just me, though! I’d rather have bare feet outside too, but I don’t like fire ants!
Isn’t it amazing what fresh air and sunshine can do you for your productivity? I have to say I am definitely better at keeping the house together when I get out and enjoy some fresh air first thing in the morning!
I have my inside shoes that I wear all the time in the house. It does make you on top of your game for some reason. Wonder why that is!?
