Here is the pre-written blurb:

Never pretty enough to please her gorgeous mother, Allie will do anything to gain her approval–even marry a man she doesn’t love. Lt. Walter Novak–fearless in the cockpit but hopeless with women–takes his last furlough at home in California before being shipped overseas. Walt and Allie meet at a wedding and their love of music draws them together, prompting them to begin a correspondence that will change their lives. As letters fly between Walt’s muddy bomber base in England and Allie’s mansion in an orange grove, their friendship binds them together. But can they untangle the secrets, commitments, and expectations that keep them apart? A Distant Melody is the first book in the WINGS OF GLORY series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

I don’t think the backcover does it justice. My first impression of A  Distant Melody was that it looked long and a bit boring. BUT It moved faster than I expected and I enjoyed reading it. It’s a moving story set during World War II that made me laugh and cry. Sarah Sundin obviously did her research. I was impressed with the details she included about the planes. [My husband likes planes and I try to absorb a little bit of aviation info whenever possible. Not much sticks with me, but I try.] The characters are believable although the heroine, Allie, stayed longer and tried to work things out longer than I would have in real life. I enjoyed the way the author wove the Biblical message in with the story. One main point is about obedience versus sacrifice and the major point is about truthfulness.  Does omission count as a lie?

Jendi – thank you so much for the lovely review. I’m so glad you overcame your resistance :) By the way, I saw your posts on your injured hand and I relate. I broke my wrist ice-skating this summer (long story), and had to learn to do everything with one hand. I’m thankful the ER nurses thought to pull off my rings (PAINFUL!!!) before the swelling progressed too far – I didn’t have to have them cut off like you. Hope you feel better soon!
