My mom always let me pick flowers. There was a little jar under the sink that I could use for dandelion, buttercup, and clover bouquets. When I was allowed to use the clippers she let me cut dandelions and tulips to wrap in a wet paper towel and foil and take to my teachers. The fancier vase was used for the flowers that looked good and smelled even better – hyacinths, lilacs, and roses. I can’t think of one flower that was off limits. The rule that I remember is, “Put the clippers back when you’re done.”
Since we are in an apartment most of the flower beds are off limits, but the roses are growing abundantly right now so I let my son cut some roses to bring in. He was so excited! I didn’t realize how much you can talk about and teach from flowers – botanical, practical, and even spiritual. It was definitely better than some lunch conversations we’ve had!
Do you let your children pick your flowers? Did you pick flowers for your Mom?

Yes, I picked flowers for my mom and I let the kids pick them for me. They usually pick them and surprise me just when I need a pick me up the most!
