Sitting on the sidelines
On a sunny day,
Watching all my children
Happy in their play,
I applaud them gaily
As they shout and run,
Thinking “This is mother’s
True place in the sun.”
Mother’s place is somewhere
Near her little brood –
Praising, shielding, chiding,
Praying for their good.
Never interfering
With their wholesome fun,
Surely this is mother’s
True place in the sun.
I could feel the warm sun
On my joyous face,
Basking in the sunshine
In my rightful place.
Glad for little triumphs,
Happy for each one –
This is every mother’s
True place in the sun.
