Dreams are important to me right now. I feel like I have more dreams now than I did as a young girl. It is my dreams that keep me plugging away at growing my business. So Dream Big, Little Pig! is a fun read for me even though it’s a children’s book.
It is definitely a girly book. The illustrations by Tim Bowers are bright, clear, fun pictures with lots of pink and purple. My 8 year old son read it, but decided that it was too much pink for him. My 4 and 6 year old daughters think it is wonderful – the cover even has sparkles on it! My 4 year old thinks it’s neat when Poppy uses her hairbrush like a microphone. Her favorite parts are when Poppy is dreaming and everything is wonderful in her dreams. The reality sets in when Poppy fails at several things; and the lesson comes when Poppy tries another thing, and another, and another.
Here’s a message from Kristy Yamaguchi:
Whether she’s auditioning for Swan Lake, singing on Singing Stars or modeling for Supermodel Search, Poppy gets support from friends and family. Like me, when she encounters the ice-rink, Poppy finally realizes that this, in fact, is her dream. Regardless of how many times she may fall, or how many people tell her she can’t do it, Poppy persists.
I founded the Always Dream Foundation to inspire children to reach for the stars. Through Poppy, I hope to reach kids directly, helping to pass along our message of hope that you are only limited by how big you can dream!
Having been born with club feet, I know what it means to face adversity from personal experience. I wore plaster casts on my legs until I was a year old. When the casts came off, I wore corrective shoes connected by a brace to turn my feet until I was about 2.
Skating wasn’t assigned to me, but when I expressed an interest in it at the age of 5, the doctors said it would help. I remember seeing Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill and wanting to capture the magic of those shows. Through persistence and hard work, I overcame my challenges and achieved my dream of becoming an Olympic champion.
Like Poppy, I learned about adversity and the importance of perseverance. As the mother of two young girls, I’m hoping that Poppy will inspire kids to do the same.
The motto “Always Dream” has served as my personal inspiration for many years. It is my constant reminder to dream big, never lose sight of my goals, and strive to become a better person. This book represents my desire to share that with children everywhere.
I hope you’ll join me in helping to make dreams come true!
Sincerely,
Kristi Yamaguchi
