I’ll start right out by saying that I’m against the whole Elf on the Shelf thing. If that shocked you sit down before you read that we don’t do Santa at our house. I know my basic reasons why I do what I do, but never thought out how to articulate them. In this ebook, To Elf or Not or Elf?, Shanna did; and she explains things a whole lot nicer than I just did.

It’s obvious that Shanna has spent a lot of time thinking, researching, and figuring things out. The book does not attack any point of view; it presents Shanna’s findings in a tactful, thought-provoking way with documentation to back up her statements.

I also like the way the ebook gives alternate ideas and resources on how to keep your Christmas Christ-centered. If you are struggling with ideas that section alone is worth the price of the ebook – it’s less than $5!

Here is some copy:

Just in time for the holiday season, To Elf or Not to Elf will explore:

The issue of whether or not we, as parents, should encourage magical thinking in the form of Santa and other beings.

The meanings and origins of popular holiday traditions.

A variety of fun and meaningful activities to help keep your family Christ-focused this Christmas season.

I too was bothered by all the elf business. I saw my friends posting pictures of their naughty elf who wouldn’t stay on the shelf. I found it very creative of them and mildly amusing were it not for the fact that I was deeply concerned. I couldn’t help but think of all the wasted time they could have given toward teaching their children right from wrong and raising up a godly seed. Thanks for sharing this.
