How To Remove Stickiness Left From Contact Paper

I have shelf paper laid and things put away in all of my top kitchen cabinets, but the bottom is still empty. My husband plans to put new counter in this weekend so I didn’t want to fill them up just to empty them again.

The previous owner used contact paper – there might not have been shelf liner at that time. But did she have to wrap it over the front edge and 2 inches under the shelf?!? That adhesive is sticky! In the video I tell you what I tried to get it off.

Living In Two Places

movingI am exhausted. We are moving to a new house – slowly and quickly. Hang on – It will make sense in a minute.

We bought the house on a Thursday, and unloaded a trailer load of our stuff into the garage. I wanted out of the basement apartment so bad that I pushed to sleep in the new house by the next Tuesday. Why was that a push? Because the rooms needed painted, the hot water didn’t work, my husband worked his full time job every day, I homeschooled at least a couple hours each day, we only have one vehicle, etc. etc. etc. We finished painting the kid’s rooms [except for the closets so don't look in them ok?] and moved our beds in. Most everything else is still at the apartment.

The quickly is because I want to sleep here even though it’s not “all ready.” [Is a house ever all ready?] The slowly is because each trip back and forth I load more stuff into the back of the Suburban and bring it to the house. We were going to try to fix more before we brought everything, but I don’t care anymore. We’re just going to plop our stuff here and get on with life. It’s a disorganized move, but it’s a move! And that is a great thing. We will fix it up over time.

[I also find myself pondering the advantages of a minimalist lifestyle more and more.]

New Home Owners

We did it! We wired money, signed stacks of paperwork, and got the keys to our new house! We actually pulled the trailer full of stuff behind us to the realtor’s office so we could immediately go to the house and unload after closing. [Surely we're not the only ones that have ever done that, right? Oh well.] The trailer is now empty and ready for another load. My wonderful husband even has one bedroom taped off and the ceiling painted. Woo-hoo! In this video I tell you a bit about the painting plans:

The World Trade Center Rebuilt

I’ve been to memorials at Gettysburg, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. and I really wanted to see the 9/11 memorial. However, I didn’t take into account the volume of NYC traffic and that they require tickets. It is free but you have to get a ticket so they can regulate the amount of people, and it is booked through next month. So, I didn’t get to see the memorial. We did get to see the new World Trade Center that is being built.

Trying Not To Forget Anything While Packing

suitcasesI used to be a good packer. I don’t remember ever forgetting something significant when I went to summer camp, sleeping over somewhere, or even vacations with the family. That has changed a bit in the past twelve months, and I’ve got to break the bad streak.

When we went North Carolina I forgot the adult toothpaste. Thankfully I remembered our mouthwash because the kid’s toothpaste really didn’t make my mouth feel clean.  I also forgot our Bibles! It was a funny feeling to sit in church and look up the verses on my iPod. I don’t know if they thought we were hi-tech or just weird.
