Thank You For Reading

girl with christmas presentsJust want to take a couple minutes to say thank you so much for coming to my blog, for reading, for commenting, for entering contests, for clicking through affiliate links, for sharing it with your friends. I’m so grateful that you use some of your precious time here with me.

I would blog if I had 5 readers or 5000 [yes I'm addicted], but it makes it so-o, so very much nicer to have readers to interact with! I’m thankful for each and every one of you – and I mean that – every one. [Even my mother who never comments, but always knows what I've written ;) ]

As I feel the crunch of holiday busy -ness and gather with real life family and friends I might miss some days, but I won’t forget you. I want to let you know that I think of my readers and wish you the best at this Christmas time.

Writing For Five Minutes

5 minute Friday

Lisa Jo & Trina for 5 Minute Friday

writing promptEach time I meet Lisa Jo I like her a little more. Plus, this time I realized that she says “can’t” just like Professor Higgins taught Eliza. Next time I should ask her about the rain in Spain. The most recent time I saw Lisa Jo was at the Relevant Conference. She told the whole session about her 5 minute Friday that is used as a writing prompt and to kickstart creative writing juices. I thought, “That’s neat, but I’m not really a wordweaver. I love video and just casual blogging about my life.”

Starting An Online Business

be your own bossLately I’ve gotten requests from several of my readers asking about making money blogging or online. The possibilities are endless – and so are the scams. I want to tell you about somebody that gives great information and encouragement: The Barefoot Executive – Carrie Wilkerson. I’ve followed her for several years and am still impressed with her. I trust her.

Something that she says regularly – in slightly different ways – really resonated with me:

I will not apologize for my faith, being family focused or for asking to be treated like a lady. I won’t apologize for my accent, my dress code or my appreciation for manners. Those things are all part of who I am and I refuse to apologize for that.

Those of you that really know me know that I am not mainstream. Those of you that don’t know me – let’s just say that I am very conservative. When I first started venturing into the online world I was afraid to make that known. Would I get hateful comments or email? Thanks to Carrie I gained boldness to venture in the online business world and start changing my life.

Staying Healthy On The Road Again

By the time you read this we will be cruising along in our Suburban on the way to the Type A Conference. I’ve spent the last couple days crazily trying to get everything ready. [I hope I didn't forget anything.] It was sketchy for a bit that we would be able to afford the trip until I got a sponsor.

We are very grateful that Doug from Fitness Weight Loss Center is sponsoring our trip. Joe and I got to meet him when we went to Baltimore. This is my favorite part of his about page:

I’ve started this Website with the two primary goals – (1) too keep myself immersed in a healthy lifestyle of proper diet, nutrition and regular physical exercise and (2) to help as many others as I can to reach their healthy lifestyle goals through proper diet, nutrition and regular physical exercise.

There is a lot of great information there that makes me think every time I visit his site. He even has info about eating healthy while traveling that I’m going to try to keep in mind. I struggle with that for us and the kids.

Now that I know we can afford a place to sleep and food to eat all I have to worry about is doing good during my presentation on video editing!

If you stop by FitnessWeightLossCenter would you do me a favor and leave a nice comment? Thanks so much!

The Social Media Affect On My Life

Thank you to BING Social Search for sponsoring my post about social media. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

Overall, social media has had a great affect on my life. There are times when I wonder, but that is when I know that I need to make sure I have my limits and boundaries set.

Let me go back a bit. What do I mean by social media? Blogging, Vlogging, Streaming, and Twitter are the main social media tools I use and interact with. I do have a presence on Facebook that I check once a day.

My story starts with blogging. I read them for almost a year before I started my own in 2007. I wanted to be a part of the online community that I saw forming through blogs.

Twitter was my next step – in 2008. It’s a faster way to connect and interact with other bloggers and professionals. I’ve gotten several jobs through Twitter and many great connections – plus new readers!

Vlogging came next. Again, I saw others putting video on their sites and I wanted to do it too! And no, I don’t usually follow the crowd. Video blogging is what has enabled me to start a business, attend and speak at conferences among other things.

Live streaming is just a natural extension of video blogging for me. I love to get the instant responses from the people in live chat.
