Life Isn’t Fair

roses in cemeteryIt isn’t fair that my 46 year old aunt is dying with stage 4 cancer – in less than 2 weeks. She’s led a good, moral, Christian life, and many love her.

It isn’t fair for that little baby boy to have died. I watched him during church, held, fed, rocked, and played with him; and now he’s gone to Heaven before his first birthday.

Is Your Life Splashing Over?

swimming poolAs I sit and watch my kids swim in the pool I notice that the water splashes over the sides. That’s expected to happen when they are going after each other or jumping into the pool, but it happens when they are just swimming and kicking their way around the pool. The pool is full enough that it’s not hard for the water to splash out. A natural result of being beside a full pool is water drops landing on you.

Then I wonder if my spiritual tank is full. Does it naturally splash on to the people around me? Or is it so low that people can be next to me and not notice that I love Christ?

Three main things that keep my spiritual tank full are Bible reading, prayer, and church attendance. Others that help are good music, outreach, and fellowship with other Christians. What fills your spiritual tank?

The Thought That Helps Me Do Right

A week and a half ago we had a young evangelist preach at our church. His message really made me think – and continue thinking a week and a half later. He said something like this:

We know that the Devil wants to hurt and hinder us and pull us over the edge. So why do we walk right up to the edge and look in? Why do we get as close as we can to the wrong thing if we know that it is there to hurt us?

It made instant sense to me. If the water on the stove is bubbling I don’t stick my finger in to see if it’s hot. If there is ice on the metal pole I don’t lick it to see if it is cold. If God’s Word warns me to stay away from something why do I get as close as possible?
