I absolutely loved snow before I had kids.
Now I have mixed feelings.
The feelings are mixed with wet mittens, coats, hats, pants, scarves, etc.
See, when we dress for playing in the snow here we don’t just dress for cold; we have to dress for wet too.
Maybe I shouldn’t say “we dress” because it’s me dressing my 3 munchkins while they fidget up a storm and don’t understand why I can’t simultaneously help all 3 of them.
Anyway you look at it there is much bundling and unbundling involved along with soggy things spread out all over the place to dry.
If I refuse to let them out I’m just the meanest mother. Plus, I feel guilty if I don’t let them play in the snow even though they are outside half as long as it takes to wrap and unwrap them.
On November 21 my munchkins went outside in their sneakers. As you can see there wasn’t much snow.
My 2yo promptly got snow inside her mittens and refused to wear them. Instead she stood around and cried about how cold she was.
My 4yo managed to get her tights soaking wet, didn’t tell me, and ended up wearing wet stockings for several hours.
My almost 6 yo did ok. He even got in a snowball “battle.”
At least I don’t have to feel guilty about not letting them play in the snow.
