The word that comes to mind when I think of the book Fetching Sweetness is fun. I really did laugh out loud a couple times while reading, and I know I smiled a whole lot. It’s a light read but there are underlying life lessons and parts that made me think. I like that not everything turned out just right like a fairy tale might, but there are enough good things to make it a happy ending.
The story shows us the catalyst that changes the heroine’s life. Stephanie has created a life and career based on her childhood and things in the past. She thought it was a good life – and it was; but through these adventures she finds out that it could be a great life. She goes through mental, emotional, and physical changes through the course of the story. She also gets to learn about dogs; which is something everyone should know about.
The hero is trying to forcefully change his life. He creates many of the adventures and situations in order to [in his mind] fix things. Turns out that his life is good; he just needs to mend some relationships and work on his social skills. He also ends up with a better life due to the hi-jinks that happen through this story.
I love the parts about the animals, and it’s definitely a book for dog lovers. This dog is, of course, an extraordinary dog that is in charge more than the people would prefer. The food is another low key – yet fun – part. I’m glad the hero and heroine manage to meet in the middle. One more thing that was especially enjoyable for me is that the heroine love books. She’s actually a literary agent, but loves to read all books and has to have one with her – that’s my kind of person!
There aren’t many supporting characters. The dog is definitely an important one, but maybe I should call him a main character. The heroine’s brother, while not actually with her in the story, is an important part of the plot line. The hero’s sister is a great addition also; I’d love to read more of her story.
Looks like this is actually the second of the Love Unleashed series by Dana Mentink, but it is a stand alone story. I think I will look for Sit, Stay, Love [Love Unleashed Book 1] – usually the first in a series is better than the second, and I loved the second one.

Standing Between Stephanie and Her Dream
Is One Hundred Pounds of Lovable Trouble
It should have been so simple for Stephanie Pink: Meet up with Agnes Wharton in a small town in California, retrieve the reclusive author’s valuable new manuscript, and be promoted to a full-fledged literary agent.
But Agnes’s canine companion, Sweetness, decides to make a break for it before Stephanie can claim her prize. Until Agnes has Sweetness safely back at home in Eagle Cliff, Washington, Stephanie will never set eyes on the manuscript she needs to make her dreams come true.
When Stephanie tracks the runaway mutt to a campground, she meets Rhett Hastings—a man also on the run from a different life and a costly mistake. Rhett agrees to help Stephanie search for the missing dog…thus launching a surprising string of adventures and misadventures.
Once Sweetness gets added to the mix, it’s a recipe for love and loss, merriment and mayhem, fun and faith in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest.
