Last Sunday night we had a missionary speak at our church. The one story he told has been on my mind off and on all week…
This missionary is a citizen and pastor from South India who has ministries for women, men, and children. The ministries include orphans, schools, colleges, and and outreach to the leprosy colony.
There was a group from this ministry that met in a village along the South India coast. The Saturday before the tsunami hit this group was passing out literature and were stopped by the Hindus. The Hindus tore up the literature and threatened the group; telling them “We know where you meet on Sunday.”
This frightened the group so they traveled farther the next day and met in the town church instead of the spot they usually met in the village. This protected the whole group from the tsunami that came that Sunday – safe in the church! The Hindu temple was totally destroyed.
Since the tsunami, this group has had many opportunities to reach the people in the same village area they were chased out of. The missionary said that they have been a comfort and consolation to many.
