Sometimes the house just seems to close in on me. I tend to blame it on the small house size, but I don’t know if that is the right place to put the blame.
Lately, I’ve been reminded several times in various ways to have “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Sounds great to me…I just don’t have enough “places”.
I try to organize and ruthlessly clean out…but I’m very good at finding excuses to keep things.
The November newsletter from Above Rubies has stories about families with 8, 9, and 10 children living in miniscule places, travel trailers, foreign lands, etc. They wrote how they choose to be content and even happy with few possessions.
I think I need to work on being even meaner when I clean out.
My idea for December is to make sure I get rid of one or two things every day. That way when Christmas is past and there is a pile of new, exciting things I might have some places for them.
Meanwhile I’ll try to praise the Lord for the cluttered counters that means I have appliances, dishes, and food; the full floor that indicates my children have toys; the laundry loads that prove we have plenty to wear; and the bulging bookshelves that just show my weakness for books of all kinds.
