On Saturday my husband and I moved our bed to the other side of the room. He suggested that we switch sides of the bed.
I thought it would be no big deal, but boy was I wrong. Saturday night was a night of very little sleep for me. Him? He slept like a log.
My preferred side of the bed is left when you are looking at the bed from the foot, or right if your back is against the headboard. From here on I will refer to the side I like as the left side because it sounds more artistic.
As I was tossing and turning Saturday night I realized that I have slept on the left side of the bed 9 out of 10 years of marriage, AND all of my high school years at my parents house. So that ruled out the idea that this particular mattress is more comfortable on the left.
Years ago I heard about a man that always slept closer to the door of wherever he and his wife were staying. That sounded so sweet and romantic. Tried it, doesn’t work for me. I don’t get enough sleep on the right side of the bed.
In my case the right side of the bed is the wrong side.
My husband reassured me that if something or someone threatening comes through the door, about 3 feet isn’t going to make much difference. Then he promptly rolled over and went to sleep. On the right side of the bed, thank goodness.
I’m tempted to see how many nights it would take for me to sleep well on the other side of the bed…. no, I better not. Because lack of sleep means lack of getting work done; and both of the the aforementioned contribute to lack of happiness, otherwise known as crankiness. Momma wouldn’t be happy, and we all know that “When Momma ain’t happy…”
So, why does it matter which side I’m on when I’m sleeping with my eyes shut? Does anyone else have this problem? (If it is a problem. I think it’s perfectly normal, of course.)

What is home without a Bible?
‘Tis a place where day is night,
For o’er life’s beclouded pathway
Heaven can shed no kindly light.
What is home without a Bible?
‘Tis a place where daily bread
For the body is provided,
But the soul is never fed.
What is home without a Bible?
‘Tis a vessel on the sea,
Compass lost and rudder broken,
Drifting, drifting, aimlessly.
Lost — the Bible! Lost — it’s teachings!
Lost — its help each day in seven:
Lost — to live by! Lost — to die by!
Lost? What’s lost? The way to Heaven.

My husband figured out that the way he was dressed affected how much service he got at Home Depot/Lowe’s.
When he went shopping and looked like a contractor dressed in his jeans, t-shirt, and boots he hardly ever got asked if he needed help.
Then he went shopping on a business lunch break dressed in a button down shirt and slacks. He was approached by several employees during that one trip.
Hmm, interesting…
Don’t know how it works for ladies ’cause I never go in those stores by myself. Truthfully, I even avoid going with him. I just write a list and he does the dirty work.

This week my husband bought me 2 living things and some chocolate. The chocolate is history so that’s not worth mentioning…except it might still be hanging on around my waist.
He bought me some pretty flowers “just because.” Do you like getting flowers “just because?” Does it make you feel like a stinker for not being nicer to your man?
The second living thing he bought me was something I picked, but it was an impulse buy.
Here it is:

He is a young Polish rabbit. No jokes allowed.
He will stay about the size of a dwarf rabbit.
We did think of naming him Charlie. Then if he bit one of the kids fingers they could say, “Charlie bit my finger.”
Instead we named him Licorice.

He seems to be adjusting well, and I hope we are too. He does stay in the cage except for picture sessions and hugging sessions.

Putting clean sheets on a top bunk bed is difficult for me. That’s putting it mildly.
It’s almost as many contortions as 20 minutes of Pilates, but it’s worse because there is no one telling me what to do or being ridiculously cheerful.
Kneeling on the bed to strip the sheets is easy enough, but I can’t reach the bed while standing on the floor to put the sheets back on. I am only 5 feet 1 and a half inches tall flat-footed. (Don’t forget that half an inch. I’m sure it’s important.) I even climb the ladder to cover my daughter.
First I grab the mattress cover and wrestle it on. Not too bad so far.
Then the fitted sheet. I always run into trouble with the fitted sheet. Kneeling on the mattress and pulling up the corner of it just doesn’t make much sense. If you know another way to do it I’d be ever so grateful if you’d let me in on the secret.
One time I actually threw my left leg over the side to push off the floor. Praise the Lord I didn’t shift my weight.
By this time the kids figure out where I am and come climbing up to “help” me. Oh boy and oh girl!
Thank you kiddos. I love you. I’m glad you want to help. Now get off the bed!
After multiple trips up and down the ladder, I finally get the bed made.
This is why I was elated when the daughter that sleeps in the top bunk held her throw-up in the whole way to the bathroom. (Too much info?)
Someone needs to invent something to help short people make the bed on the top bunk.
Do any of you have top bunks that you have to make? If you’re tall and can reach from the floor I don’t want to know about it.

What do a thirteen year old boy, a special forces veteran, and a retired missionary lady have in common? They are main characters in Davis Bunn’s new book All Through the Night.
Wayne, the young veteran is the main character, but I like to think that Victoria, the missionary lady, is the heroine. As he fights physically she fights spiritually. Together they save the seniors community, a business and it’s owner, even the lives of several people.
It would not have been a book that I picked up from the library just seeing the cover; but I enjoyed reading this story of unlikely heroes and forgiveness.
Here is a quote that I liked:
“A hero is somebody willing to risk all to gain all. It doesn’t matter whether he wins or not. What matters is he tries. What matters is what he tries for.”

While reading the April 08 update letter from Christian law association I saw this quote:
I firmly believe that every person or ministry is either moving forward for God or sliding backwards. There is no such thing as sitting still when you are in the Lord’s work.
~ David C. Gibbs, Jr.
May I always be moving forward like Paul who said,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

In our apartment we only have one bathroom.
This has it’s good points, not many of them, but if I think hard enough there are some.
It also has it’s bad points. One of them is my children’s uncanny ability to always have to use the potty when I am in the shower. Always. It doesn’t even matter if it’s the middle of the night.
A couple mornings ago I was taking a shower when the anticipated banging on the door began. The kids don’t just knock politely 3 times. They kind of slam their whole body against the door, rattle the knob, and holler while they are attempting to knock with their hands and feet.
My 3 year old daughter was first. Then my 5 yo son came in and went back out when she hollered at him. All my warm, steamy bathroom air went out with him.
So my 3yo went out and my 5 yo came in to use the potty, talking the whole time.
By that time I was done in the shower and just waiting for a clear bathroom so I could get out.
As soon as the 5yo went out the 3yo came back in. Guess he didn’t let her sit long enough the first time - I don’t know. I just wanted out of the shower. I hate getting wrinkled fingers.
The 3 yo went out, again; and the 5 yo stuck his head in the door to ask about breakfast food.
“If you’ll just let me get out of the shower I’ll get you breakfast!!!”
By this time my hubby comes and says, “What’s going on?”
I lost it. “I JUST WANT TO GET OUT OF THE SHOWER!”
He went out and locked the door for me. Wise man.

I added a Twitter update widget to my sidebar. It’s short updates of what I’m doing or not doing at the time.
Seriously considering switching to 2 sidebars. Any thoughts?
Do you like 2 sidebars side by side or one on each side of the posts? Do you hate seeing 2 sidebars? Could you care less about sidebars?
