Beautiful Beasties: A Creative Guide to Modern Pet Photography is a non-fiction book packed full of good information. Packed! If you are interested in the field of pet photography you should read this book. The author, Jamie Pflughoeft, gives information on everything from what kind of equipment to use, to how to actually take pictures, how to handle the animals, how to start your business, and more. It’s actually amazing to me how much information is included in this book. It’s easy to tell that she has hands on experience with everything that she is writing about.
It’s also a beautiful book with great pictures – as expected. My kids wanted to look at it right away because of all the adorable animal pictures. I love the way she illustrates exactly what she is talking about.
One of the first sections I checked is where she talked about how to handle different animals and I was impressed with the good tips that she gave. Since I don’t know a lot of photography I can only tell you that it agrees with the other good stuff I’ve read about photography.
It doesn’t come across as snobby expert writing. Her voice comes through the pages like I sat down with a friend that wants to help.
