Figuring Out A New Shower

aka The Shower Dance

shower headWhen using a new shower you have to figure out the proper steps or you end up jumping away with a “Yikes!” Perhaps it’s in a new house, like my situation; and you have to keep practicing until the shower and you can move together comfortably. Perhaps it’s in a hotel or vacation condo and you only have to grit your teeth and last through a couple songs. The approach is different depending on how long you plan to dance together.

Do You Bathe Your Kids More In The Summer or Winter?

yellow rubber ducksThis summer is the longest between baths my kids have ever gone. I’ve always been very regular with their baths – thanks to my husband’s help. When they were just a day or two old I bathed them on the kitchen table. As soon as their cords fell off I had them in a special seat in the bathtub; and it’s just continued from there.

However, this week I don’t want to even tell you the last time they took a bath. Don’t panic. They have been in the pool quite frequently. That counts, right?

How Do You Like Your Bath?

Aloha FridayKailani at An Island Life hosts Aloha Friday every week. “In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. …Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer…”

My question for you is about baths.   I would take more baths if I could.  I’m glad for the occasional ones I can take. Otherwise, I’m just grateful for a quick shower.  You mothers with little ones – there will come a time when you’ll be able to take showers again.  I promise.

How do you like your bath?  Bubbles, salts, oils, scented bag…?

When it comes down to what I buy and use the most  - it’s bubbles.  I don’t care for the oils I’ve tried.  I enjoy the salts occasionally.  If scented bags were easier and cheaper to get I would use them more, for sure.

Once I had a lavender bath tea bag.  I would leave it in the water just long enough to make a nice aroma.  Then I’d lift it out and let it dry.  I got 3 times as many baths out of it as the instructions said I would. :) Loved that bag!

But all things considered, there’s just something about bubbles…

Bath time

One night recently my husband was working through the evening and so I had to do baths and bed time all by myself.

I was talking on the phone and mentioned about giving the kids baths to the person I was talking to. Somehow my children, that can’t hear me tell them to go to bed when I’m 3 feet away from them, heard from the other room about bathime.

Bathtime I by ZaricorSo they converged upon the bathroom and started asking to go first. Remember, I’m still on the phone. They are now arguing with each other about who is going to take a bath first. While they are arguing they start removing their clothes so when I turn around the baby has a shirt and diaper on, but that is the only clothes in sight.

I hang up the phone and they are still arguing about who is going to go first while the baby is pulling on her diaper and throwing toys in to the tub. I decided to just put them all in at one time. That did not leave enough room for the oldest one to play with his boat so he climbed back out. Yes, I made him get dressed.

Meanwhile my middle child, who was adamant that she should go first, announces that she is done. She was only in for one minute! She wants to be washed so she can get out and get her pajamas on. I very calmly told her “No, you have to stay in the tub longer.”

I’m such a mean mother!
