A Love Forbidden by Kathleen Morgan | Book Review

I found A Love Forbidden (Heart of the Rockies 2) to be an enjoyable read.  I wasn’t sure of it at first, but the forbidding is not done by her family – it’s done by society in general. I think Kathleen Morgan did a great job of portraying the Indian’s and the White Man’s point of view. She portrays the time era well without crossing the line to things I’d rather not read about.

Shiloh, the heroine, stays strong in her faith throughout the story, and grows in maturity. Jesse, the hero, struggles to decide until the climax; which ends as expected. The supporting characters have small roles, but enough to complete the story. It’s a fairly predictable plot, but had enough differences to keep my interest. I have not read the first book in this series, but did not feel like I was missing anything. It did intrigue me enough that I will pick up the first book if I see it.

The Pursuit of Lucy Banning By Olivia Newport | Book Review

Unfortunately, I didn’t like The Pursuit of Lucy Banning. I’m sure the author spent lots of time on it and it is well written. The historical trivia about the Chicago fair is interesting and I could easily picture the surroundings and events that are described. It is characterized as a historical fiction and is a “clean” book; the religious content is very minor. I think the reason I don’t like it is the amount of deceit that the heroine uses throughout the story, and the unclear blurring of the male antagonist. He’s good. He’s bad. He’s sick? Having the heroine stand up for herself is one thing, but having her deceive her parents and friends is another – and doesn’t sit well with me.

Submerged by Dani Pettrey | Book Review

After I took this book off my to-be-read shelf it sat on my nightstand for a couple days. I wasn’t eager to jump into it, but when I did I found that Submerged (Alaskan Courage) was better than I expected and I finished it the same day. [which actually isn't unusual for me, but anyway... it was riveting.]

There is an interesting story line in Submerged that mixes Russian Alaskan history, the message of new life in Christ, and a terrible bad guy that must be stopped. The heroine, Bailey, is realistically portrayed during a time of her life that is hard, but she grows and triumphs with Christ’s help. The hero, Cole, is a great support and catalyst for Bailey’s change. The supporting characters are very interesting and are definitely set up for the next story. My guess is Landon and Piper are the main characters in the next book; but I wouldn’t object to hearing more about Katelyn and Jake either.

Don’t Panic Cookbook – Quick, Easy, & Delicious Meals | Book Review

I’m REALLY getting out of my normal style of book review for this one. It’s a cookbook! An honest to goodness, real, printed, cookbook. And I actually used it. I know that there’s a bunch of you that have cookbooks that you haven’t ever used, and some that you haven’t looked in for years. Get rid of them! End rant.

I agreed to review this one because of the title: Don’t Panic–Quick, Easy, and Delicious Meals for Your Family. I am good at the panicking part. Yup. Plus I like quick and easy. [That just doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean...I hope.]
