Last week my friend and I got to sit a bit and watch our kids ride bikes. The weather was nice – not too hot or cold. It’s pretty easy to watch the kids right now because they can all walk, get in and out of their riding toys, and make the riding toys go forward and backwards. Some years we had to constantly get kids unstuck, block the drop offs & hills, push them around, or put them in and out of different toys.
We were able to actually carry on a conversation. So what if it was punctuated with short sayings such as, “Share that bike! Don’t push. Your turn is done. Put your shoes back on.” I’m pretty used to interrupted conversations. We’re pretty good at continuing after the child is taken care of.
It was another ordinary time that I want to remember because someday it won’t be ordinary any more.
