Wordless Wednesday ~ Safe and Sound

I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psalm 91:2-6

Six more baby ducklings! This Mommy Duck likes us better than the other one. More info in another post.

Waddle-Waddle-Waddle. Quack. Quack. Quack!

Remember the ducklings that wouldn’t stay in the fence, had to fight the black birds for food, and loved to play in the water?

They are free to wander in the day now. We still shut them up at night.

This morning they woke my husband and I up at 6:45am. The Mama had flown out and the babies were searching for her. Reminds me of the other day when my husband and I went outside to talk. Five minutes later all 3 kids came running out, “Found you, Mommy!”

I don’t mind them using the truck as shade. I did mind them using our kiddie pool.

It is funny when they are chasing bugs. Sometimes they run/waddle 6 feet with their neck stuck out as far as possible.

We won’t need a bug zapper this summer!

Seven Little Ducks Went Out to Play

Still have seven ducklings! Sometimes the Momma Duck sits outside of the gate and watches them. I know how she feels.

Duckling Update

We are down to seven ducklings from the original ten. That’s better odds than if they were in “the wild.” Usually only 1/3 of a nest of baby ducks will live to be adult ducks. They must be a pretty tasty “meal.”

Please excuse the photography. I’m not a great photographer to begin with and it’s not easy taking pictures of moving ducklings through a fence before their momma herds them up behind her.

Those patio bricks were put there to keep them from going through the fence and any hole they could find. If they get out they don’t know how to get back in. Dumb ducks!

The Momma had to be let in the cage 4 times yesterday. We think that she has been protecting the ducklings against the big black birds. Those nasty black birds go right in the duck cage and eat the food! Momma Duck can fly out, but not back in.  I guess it’s not just the babies that are dumb.

Today the kids and I have been watching out the window and hollering “Shoo!” at the black birds. Our shouting doesn’t seem to bother Momma Duck, and the kids think it’s quite exciting to protect the ducklings. Sometimes by the time I notice the black birds in the yard the Momma already has her babies hidden.

I found another duck nest today. More news about that in another post.
