Starting Summer with a Picnic

Ever eat a hamburger with jalapenos in it? My husband made some specially for our Memorial Day picnic.

The consensus seemed to be that the burgers were not too hot unless you put two together in one bun. Did I eat one? Are you kidding? After my husband took the time to mix up these special burgers? No, I didn’t eat any. He bought me sausages with cheese inside.

After we ate I said, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!”

The kids took turns manning the string.

The first kite just wouldn’t lift up, but the second one soared for a while.

Our friends brought this to share and the kids wore the battery down to nothing. For a while it was going slower than they walk, but they still rode it until it completely stopped.

We all ended up with red noses, sweaty clothes, and lots of fresh air.

A good way to kick off our summer.

I’d Stay in the Garden with Him

There’s just something about being in a garden that makes me think of the Lord, His creation, and all He has blessed us with.

On Saturday we took a day trip to see the Hershey Gardens.

The roses had numerous buds, and there was the promise of much color to come.

I always enjoy the children’s area at any garden I visit.

We even found most of the answers to the Scavenger Hunt questions.

The butterfly house was small, but neat. Butterflies everywhere you looked.

Creeks are one of my most favorite things. This one in the Japanese Garden area had a delightful sound.

We only saw live ducks and a bunny; but there were a bunch of small animal statutes all along the way.

Down the hill and across the road is Hershey Park. You can see the Kissing Tower towards the left side.

While the garden is peaceful and shows God’s handiwork, it’s noisy, bustling, and very worldly over there.

That’s my daughter in the pink running with her friend. My other daughter hitched a ride in the stroller.

We were all three worn out, but glad for nice weather to see beautiful things while we visited with friends.

Maybe I will get my husband to take me back when the roses are in full bloom.  [Hi sweetheart,  I know you read this.  You could take lots of pretty pictures!  What do ya think?]

Comfort in Prayer Chain

We are preparing for evangelistic meetings at our church. The meetings will be next week Sunday – Friday.

This week we have around the clock prayers for the meetings and people that have been invited. Someone is praying each hour around the clock. We don’t have to pray for the whole hour; just sometime during our hour.

It’s interesting to me how many times I’ve thought of this “prayer chain” during the day and night. It feels like there is more of a bond with the other members, and I like it.

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19

When I’m up at 2:30am with a fussy baby it’s nice to think that one of my fellow church members was up in that hour too. ;-)

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16b

Sweetheart Banquet

M & H RailroadThis is sneak preview of what is planned for my church’s Sweetheart Banquet. For those of you in my church who are reading this [Hi Terri!], I’m not revealing everything. ;)

This Saturday night the fellowship will be held in a dining car from a local railroad. Anyone out of high school was invited. Our Pastor has always encouraged singles to, “Bring Jesus as your sweetheart.” Unfortunately, if you didn’t sign up before the deadline we won’t have any food for you.

The meal will be first. Then a game, a visiting Pastor as special speaker, and more games.

Each guest will have a paper with the menu and a couple games on it to play whenever they want.

This is what I have in mind for the big games right now. I have been known to change my mind. If you have a sensational banquet game please leave me a comment.

  • A kind of musical game. Either Name that Hymn or a team competition Sing Along. For the Sing Along the team will pick a paper with a word on it and have to come up with a song with that word in it.
  • Steal my Heart – Everyone will have a heart by their name card with a silly/dumb joke on it. If you see someone with their legs crossed you can steal their heart. The person with the most hearts at the end is the winner. This one will go through the meal.
  • There are 2 other games. One involving candy hearts. The other involving paper tearing. These I can’t reveal because I don’t want anyone practicing ahead of time.
  • For the door prize I will use balloons. Each balloon will have a paper in it. Only one paper will have a message on it – the winner! The balloons will serve as decoration until the end.

What do you think?

So, why did I go to the Farm Show? To meet these ladies…

group-of-friends.jpg

Katina, Abbi, Me, and Becky. It made the rest of the Farm Show worthwhile.

Abbi’s Mom and my Mom came along to help with the 10 kids that were with us. Praise the Lord for Grandmothers!

My Mom snapped some pictures of Abbi and I so I would have proof that I met an online friend and she was not “some hairy man from Nebraska.” [My husband was protectively wary of meeting an "online friend." I figured if somebody wanted to do me in they wouldn't ask to meet at a crowded Farm Show.]

The photo op wasn’t the greatest in the cow row with people constantly walking in front of us, but it was fun.

I was laughing or making faces in most of the pictures. I liked the first one after I cropped the kids out. [I better say children because we actually saw some kids.] The next one is a good one, but the camera focused on Abbi’s sister instead of us. It’s neat anyways.

A summary of our short trip:

  • an alpaca to pet [the animal was really calm]
  • lots of cows [My kids insisted on seeing the cows.]
  • lots of sheep [shaved and unshaved]
  • goats getting showers [yes, we watched]
  • feed and pet a goat [The kids pulled the hay from the pen and fed it to the goat. The goat took it from them. Crazy goat.]
  • free food samples [toothpicks anyone?]
  • a Chocolate Milkshake [half spilled on the floor...the nice lady gave us more!]
  • a 1600 pound Bison [hard to imagine a field full of them]
  • children’s play area [This was pretty neat and waylaid us on our way out.]
  • carousel [My 19 month old was so tired she cried when it started.]
  • shuttle ride to and from the parking lot [with a stroller that I had to jam in the seat]

The kids and I are looking forward to the rodeo tomorrow night. Other than that, I had my fill of the Farm Show for this year. Abbi and I are going to meet up at Cabelo’s next time. If anyone else is in the area and wants to come along give us a holler.
