Mrs. Sew and Sew

Today I come before you to reveal the secret identity of this table/chest of drawers.

It’s actually a sewing desk with storage and it’s very cool/awesome/neat/whatever word you prefer.

My sewing machine is easily tucked away in this cupboard where it is surrounded by wood and protected from flying objects or spilled drinks.  Not that either of those things happen in my house. ;)

The small top left drawer has notions, the right has thread.  The bigger drawers are packed with material, lace, elastic, etc.  You get the idea.

It stretches out to approx. 7 feet long.  I can cut out new clothes while leaving the dirty dishes on the kitchen table.

My mental excuses for not sewing are certainly lessened.

Now if I could only keep it as clean as it is in the pictures.

Do you have a sewing desk?  Do you have to stash your machine in your bedroom and set it up on the kitchen table whenever you want to sew?  Been there.  Done That.

Another Birthday Has Come and Gone

Yesterday my second child turned 4 years old.  It makes me think, but it doesn’t shock me as much as when my oldest has a birthday.  Maybe it’s because I’ve already had a 4 year old.

She had asked for a child’s piano like she saw in a book.  When I looked them up to buy they were more than we could afford or wanted to spend.

My husband made this instead.  He used scrap wood that was in the garage.  Isn’t he the best!?

It’s an electronic keyboard [that we had tucked away] set into a wooden piano frame.  Painted pink because she absolutely loves pink.

For her cake I attempted some flip-flops because all she had requested was strawberry cake.

Once again I will tell you my disclaimer.  I have not had cake decorating lessons.  I do not have any special tools or dishes for making fancy cakes.  So please be kind.

Here is the link to Howdini that has a great video on how to make the flip-flop cake.  Sometime I’d like to try the purse cake.

She also got a dollhouse.  Second-hand, but she doesn’t care.  Bunches of little pieces, but I don’t care.  It occupies all three of them, and keeps them out of my hair.

Know what she wanted for supper?  “The thing you get from the pizza shop that you dip.  It comes in a box and has cheese and ham and pepperoni inside.”

She said it was a good birthday.

Anybody Want To Swap?

Yesterday I received this bracelet in the mail. You may ask where and how I got this lovely, customized, just-my-size bracelet. Even if you don’t ask I’m going to tell you. ;)

Chel at Chasing Contentment ordered a Jendi Jean Bag made from her daughter’s jeans.

These are what she sent me.

When someone gives me a special pair of jeans to make into a bag I always agonize over cutting them. What if they don’t like the finished product? How can I make it just so they like it?

Once I do this to them there’s no going back.

Usually I just use the top part of the jeans/skirt for the bag and the legs for the straps. As you can see the pretty part is on the bottom of these jeans. Plus, a bag made out of the top of them would not hold much at all.

This is what I ended up making.

During the production process I e-mailed Chel and asked if she would be interested in swapping the bag for a piece of jewelry that she makes.

Obviously she agreed. I picked a customized bracelet with my kids names on it.

One of it’s nicest features is that it does not fall down over my hand. Most bracelets are too big for me. They end up getting caught on my elbow or falling down into my palm when I’m trying to shake hands and do things. Don’t ya hate that?

I don’t swap jean bags anymore, but I do swap video/social media work. :)

Do The Bunny Hop

This week my husband bought me 2 living things and some chocolate. The chocolate is history so that’s not worth mentioning…except it might still be hanging on around my waist.

He bought me some pretty flowers “just because.” Do you like getting flowers “just because?” Does it make you feel like a stinker for not being nicer to your man? :)

The second living thing he bought me was something I picked, but it was an impulse buy.

Here it is:

He is a young Polish rabbit. No jokes allowed. :) He will stay about the size of a dwarf rabbit.

We did think of naming him Charlie. Then if he bit one of the kids fingers they could say, “Charlie bit my finger.”

Instead we named him Licorice.

He seems to be adjusting well, and I hope we are too. He does stay in the cage except for picture sessions and hugging sessions.

Our Church Turned Into A Jungle

Time once again for Show & Tell at Kelli’s!

The Vacation Bible School Theme this year was “It’s a Jungle Out There!” So we turned the auditorium into a jungle. Sort of.

These pictures are the sides of the platform.
The following slide is of some posters that I made to hang around the seating area.
I did not hand draw them – wish I was that good. I used my Tracer.
There were 3 other ladies that helped me color them with chalk before I covered them with Contact Paper.

Which poster do you like best or worst? Personally I think the tiger stinks.
