MIRL With Friend and Fellow Blogger

I didn’t have to check this lady out when she called and asked to meet. I’ve known her since elementary school. She was, in fact, my husband’s girlfriend in Kindergarten; but I don’t hold that against her.

She came back to her native Yankee land for a visit.

Here we are in 1989. Sadly I couldn’t find one of us together. I think we usually took pictures of each other.

We didn’t dress alike in weird clothes. That was our school uniform.

Don’t you want some wallpaper like that? It was pretty in its day, but its day is over.

I think she definitely looked better in 1989 than I do. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that she smiled with her lips closed because she had braces. I got mine later.

Check out my huge glasses! My husband forbids me to buy big glasses any more.

Here we are in 2008, twenty years and 3 kids [each] later.

You can tell we both had braces.

We had a great visit while our kids ran around a local park.

Sunday Poem ~ To A Friend

I wish you quiet things –
Sea gulls on upward wings
That seek the sunlit blue;
And silver moonlight through
A wood when night is new.

I wish you joyful things –
Sweet cello murmurings
Of wind on golden hills
And dawn-bright daffodils
And little meadow rills.

I wish you holy things –
A gloried faith that sings,
An eagerness to share,
And every day a fair
Love-lighted time of prayer.

Just Swallow It!

TylenolWhen I was a little girl I could not/would not swallow pills. To take non-liquid medicine was quite a chore of crushing and then mixing. A spoon full of jelly was probably my favorite; and I remember taking crushed medicine with peanut butter, applesauce, even a little maple syrup.

My friend wanted to help me take pills by just swallowing them with water. I’m guessing I was about 10 and she was about 13…

I had spent the night and we were doing things around her neighborhood when we ended up at her grandmother’s to water plants or something. If I remember right her grandmother wasn’t there and she was helping take care of the house.

So I had a headache; her grandma had medicine; and she had determination to teach me to swallow a whole pill.

She presented me with a pill and a huge glass of water. In my memory it was a really big amount of water because I didn’t care much for plain water.

According to her coaching I threw the pill as far back in my mouth as I could.

“Now just drink the water.” I still hear her voice in my brain.

I took two big swigs and showed her the pill.

“Throw it back in and drink some more.”

I took about 4 big swigs before I opened my mouth and showed her the pill reclining on my tongue. It was now starting to dissolve.

“Just drink all the water and don’t stop until it goes down.”

I ran out of water and she let me spit the disgusting thing out.

I eventually swallowed pills whole when I had antibiotics, or my wisdom teeth out, or somewhere along the line when I had a prescription. I still have to be careful or I’ll gag on my vitamins.

When I do I can picture my friend shaking her head at me and saying, “You really should learn how to just swallow them. It’s much easier.”

Sure.

A Late Post

It was a busy but good day today. The Lord is good.

The papers are signed and the selling process is started. Our house will officially go on the market in about three and a half weeks.

We had a great blessing today. We won’t have to fix something we thought we had to fix. It will save us about $4,000.

Another pick-up load of stuff left our house…[By the yard it's hard, by the inch what a cinch. That's what I keep telling myself.]

And last, but not least:

Congratulations

to Faith – my friend, sister in Christ, regular reader and commenter [thanks so much!]. She has the best birth date in the world! Four years earlier is the bestest date. ;-)

I want to include Cyndi and Brenda in this congrats also. They are already swapping pregnancy cravings and tips through the blogosphere. I helped bring them together! At least I think I did. Maybe I just like to think I did.

If ya’ll would be so kind as to leave your due dates on this post I’d be very grateful.

P.S. Terri – if you leave a due date I’ll faint!

Thank You One and All
