We Wear Shoes When We Homeschool

My first year of homeschooling I made my son wear church clothes every morning. I did! I wanted to stay as far away from pajamas as possible. No one would be able to accuse us of homeschooling in pajamas. Now in my third year of homeschool I’ve gotten lazy – plus I have 3 instead of 1 – and I just make sure they are dressed. However I do want them to be dressed to shoes.

Starting A New School Year

back to school - colour pencils in vibrant ton...

Today is my homeschool in-service day. My children will start their classes tomorrow.  We made all the heavy decisions in the spring and I just need to do some sprucing and sorting. My munchkins are super excited, and I’m…a little excited. A bit sad that summer is coming to an end, but a bit glad that we’ll be back to our stricter daily schedule.

This is my third year of homeschooling my children and I’m definitely not as stressed this year. I’m just realizing now that I didn’t post about my daughter’s graduation. She did a great job with only half as much practice as  my son had. So I have one first grader and one second grader this year.

How are your school preparations coming? Do you have to buy supplies and/or clothes? Will you be sending them off to school and finally getting a couple hours to yourself?  Are you panicking because your homeschool materials didn’t arrive yet?

Talk to me please!

One Grade Down 12 To Go

Last night was my son’s kindergarten graduation.  I have such mixed feelings about it.  Glad he did well and that we made it through the year.  Sad that he’s already done with one year of school.  Right now the gladness outweighs the sadness.

graduation hatHe obviously didn’t mind having school because this morning he said, “I’m ready to start first grade.”  I laughed and said, “We are going to take a little break.”

In case there are some of you that don’t know how we school, we homeschool under an umbrella school through our church.  We register with them and have curriculum approved by them, plus some other things that are a bit detailed for this post.  This enables us to have ceremonies that totally stress me out.

When we practiced in the morning he did everything flawless.  When we added people watching him at night it wasn’t flawless any more.  I’m glad that a bunch of our friends said that he did well.  He even got presents!  That was a surprise to him.

Homeschool Update

Homeschooling is running along fairly smoothly here with just occasional bumps in the road.

It’s thrilling that my son can read.

It’s unnerving that he can look over my shoulder and read my emails!

I talked about the curriculum I use over at Homeschool Bliss.  If you’re curious click here.

Pre-Packaged Video Curriculum

Admitting I use pre-packaged curriculum is sometimes hard.

The impressions I’ve received from online and real-life homeschoolers it that only newbies use pre-packaged, comes-all-together, one-stop-shopping curriculum.

Well, I’m telling the world now.

homeschool bliss Ssh My curriculum is pre packaged

I use BJU curriculum with video lessons on a hard drive.  And I love it!

Here are a few reasons why:

  • It arrived in two boxes with complete, thorough instructions.
  • It has saved me hours of research, buying/shopping, and decision making.  (I am not a good decision maker.)
  • It gives me peace of mind that all the necessary subjects are covered.
  • It does NOT totally tie me down all morning.
  • It does NOT make me any less of a mother/homeschooler by choosing only one curriculum for the different subjects.
  • As much as I admire all the homeschoolers that have selected different books from different companies all over the world, I know that I would like to continue with video curriculum.

Do you use video curriculum?  Do you love it or hate it?
